French Renaissance Revival carved walnut sideboard, early 20th century.
Architectural in composition, the upper case is defined by a projecting cornice with dentil molding and a frieze carved with fruit in high relief—symbolizing abundance. The paneled back features profile figures of Ceres and Bacchus, referencing agriculture and wine, central themes in Renaissance decorative programs.
An open display shelf rests on scrolled corbels, while the lower case is fitted with drawers over two tiers of open shelving, supported by turned and carved elements and raised on substantial bun feet.
Produced during the height of the revival movement, this form reflects the continued demand for 16th-century French design vocabulary among late 19th and early 20th century interiors. Cabinetmakers of this period combined traditional hand carving with workshop production, creating pieces that balance ornament with structure.
A commanding interior anchor—suited for dining rooms, libraries, or formal spaces—offering both display and storage within a historically grounded design.
Approx. 81”h x 76”w x 23”d.
