This vibrant NEW coffee house has just opened in Hull, serving breakfast and lunch that took us by complete surprise! 😍

The Living Room is a social enterprise coffee house that’s just opened inside Jubilee Central on King Edward Street in Hull city centre, taking over what used to be an old bank.

After a £650,000 transformation, it’s now a bright, modern space with big windows, a downstairs area by the old vault, and absolutely phenomenal food by Nick Hill, a chef with loads of experience at high-end restaurants in London and Hull!

We settled in with drinks first – a latte, hot chocolate, and pot of loose-leaf English breakfast tea, as well as a delicious mango iced matcha, a blueberry honey smoothie, and a proper indulgent chocolate caramel milkshake.

Then we tried some of the breakfast items, starting with the avocado on toast – fresh and made with really creamy ricotta. The smoked salmon crumpets had loads of flavour in every bite with avocado, cream cheese, buttermilk dressing, and salmon from the local independent Staal Smokehouse.

Our real favourite was this bad boy though – the bacon and egg bun, packed with soft-set scrambled eggs, smoked bacon, caramelised onions and house ketchup, all in a brioche bun with a little hash brown on top!

The French toast was just as exceptional, with fluffy, cakelike bread topped with creme anglais and a layer of totally caramelised syrup that crunches when you take a bite… absolute heaven!

From the lunch menu, we tried the French dip, a massive toastie full of red wine braised beef served with an au jus for dipping, and the Huevos Rotos, crispy sliced potatoes with serrano ham and two fried eggs.

They also offer grab-and-go options like sandwiches and granola bowls, as well as cookies and cakes like this delicious chocolate mousse cake – they offer gluten-free ones too, and some menu options like the avocado toast and the breakfast bun can be made gluten-free as well!

The space is available for hire for both events and private functions, and because it’s a social enterprise too, everything here helps fund training and employment opportunities for people currently out of work – so every delicious dish supports something meaningful in the city.
