Marshall, NC is just 30 minutes from Asheville and a hidden gem. Talk about the perfect Asheville day trip, and this town is the story of sheer resilience after Hurricane Helene.
Here’s where Tom and I eat and drink when we go:
☕ Zuma Coffee – Marshall’s community hub (and staple) right in front of the courthouse. Matcha lattes, breakfast burritos, and bluegrass and open mic nights.
🚲 On Your Bike – A café and bike shop with the most charming vibes. Rowan coffee, avocado toast, chia pudding, and a very good dog working the bike shop.
🍔 Zadie’s Market – A gourmet shop and riverfront restaurant inside the old jail. Their burgers and rainbow bowl are excellent. Sit along the French Broad River or inside with all of the historic photos and artifacts.
🍺 Mal’s Bar – A local “dive” bar with a pool table, a saddle bar seat, and a “cold beer + hot cougars” sign. Please try a hot dog for me.
🍕 Mad Co. Brew House – Marshall’s brewery with French Broad River views, rotating taps, and pizza with GF crust and vegan cheese options. Sit on the back deck.
We still have to try Star Taco, and if you need groceries for that hike along the Laurel River Trail, drop into Madison Natural Foods.
