Today is a fun look at a homemade prototype that shows exciting promise for the future of the Moka Pot. It also has an entirely serious explanation of what a PID controller is.

Brewing with the lid open just became the standard because of this video 😂
No link to the product? Just sell licenses to 3D print it and electronic kits 🦦👍
I love the analogue aspect of the MokaPot, but I would also be interested in a product like this. There's definitively a market for it!
looks like I am a human PID, I'm preheating the water, I weight the beans that I grind, I'm adjusting the flame on my stove to keep flow steady, I'm taking it off the stove when I feel heat is building up too much avoiding hissing and spitting yet my good wife thinks I'm not a good coffee machine :-/
She prefers the good old way, fill the moka like crazy both with water and pre-griound coffee bought 6 months ago and heat it in a furnace till it screams.
Thank you Mr. Hoffmann, nice video and no I'd not buy a "smart-moka" but I do admire it.
Is this the most pointless channel that takes itself the most seriously on all of YouTube? It has to be in the top 5.
How to make coffee taste better: Care less.
Wish I could drop in the shut up and take my money gif right about here. But if they make it, they definitely need to keep the prototype vibe. Need that mad scientist feel in my coffee making setup.
I've started adding a shot of moka to black tea. I was preheating water for the moka pot and I figured I'd use the extra water for tea at the same time. When the 1 cup moka pot was done I added it to the tea. A smooth and delicious drink with a lot of caffeine. I tried it with a 3 cup moka pot and the results were not as good but that is personal preference.
Didn't realize I was watching a Weird Coffee Production.
Don’t drink that coffee!! There’s a fiiiiiiiiiish in the perrrrrrrrrcolator
don't think you need to take it off the base because the element is in the pot's case itself so taking it off the base does nothing really
I like the idea of the smarter MockaPot. Though one thing that scares people off from MokaPots is the spitting everywhere and boiling dry. If they worked with the pressure and worked out it is getting towards the end and turns off, that would make it safer in other peoples eyes.
I just needs a timer that is linked to the temperature. When temp = X timer runs down A sec then turn power off.
Ad a preheat bell when preheat temp is reached.
interaction statistic moment
James thanks for showing us something we might not know about otherwise 😊
I would be so stoked if something like this made it to market. I want to play with one!
I’ve never been a fan of coffee made in a moka pot.
I have been following this channel for a while now. It has helped me to extract more flavour and pleasure than I thought possible from the humble cup of coffee. As far as having your morning fix turned into a science experiment, nah. I want to know the time, not how the clock works.
If the pot were the steel version (instead of aluminium) the heating element could be induction which is much more responsive.
Oh, hi, hello. I did not see you there?!
I miss Hames Joffman. It makes me so happy that you’re filling in the nonsense gap by explaining PIDs while dressed as a sailor
The PID is overshooting a lot. I think you shouldn't need to put it off the heater. I might choose to get to 104 with a well tuned PID (i.e. it stops at 104 and stays there). It's too agressive on the heating. So if it's not it should get to that nice drizzle earlier and longer as it stays above boiling so the steam can build up and the flow can continue evenly. I'd start with lowering the I-term and increasing the D-term to dampen the heating relative to the speed of heating
Is there a contact for the manufacturer / inventor?
I've manually tuned PIDs a couple of times. Once on my electric oven, and once on the hot-end of a 3d printer that I built from scratch. It's pretty easy to get close to perfect with just a couple of runs and a little bit of easy math, and so satisfying to see temperature control stabilize perfectly on a chart!
Yeah, but many people don't want yet another thing to be digitalized.
Next you'll want to connect it to ChatGPT.
I watch a lot of robot maker channels and they always mention PIDs, I never really understood the specifics until I watched this 😀
Would loove to see this as a commercial product, though you just know it would be sold asthe AI MokaBot 😀
it is the rice cooker of moka pots! nice PID controller explanation
Quality Cornwall accent there.
Hello! I know you reviewed the Ninja Luxe Café a year ago, but apparently they have a new Luxe Cafe Pro version now, I hope you can get to review it some time soon on the channel!! 😀
So many potential, this has to hit the market
