Slow Cooker French Onion Soup
Makes 6 servings
3 lb cooking onions, thinly sliced
3 sprigs fresh thyme
1 cup red wine
1/4 cup butter
3 tbsp soya sauce
3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp black pepper
6 cups beef broth
1 baguette, sliced & toasted
1 cup grated Swiss cheese
1️⃣ Add onions, thyme, red wine, butter, soya sauce, balsamic vinegar, brown sugar, flour and pepper to your slow cooker. Stir to combine.
2️⃣ Cook on HIGH for 5 hours, until onions are deeply softened and caramelized.
3️⃣ Stir in the beef broth and heat through.
4️⃣ Ladle soup into oven-safe bowls. Top with toasted baguette slices and grated Swiss cheese.
5️⃣ Broil for 5–6 minutes, until cheese is melted and golden.
Serve hot and enjoy!
