The European Commission has announced €40 million in financial support for French wine producers as the sector faces market pressure and falling prices.
European Commissioner for Agriculture Christophe Hansen said the funding will allow France to use crisis distillation, a process where surplus wine is converted into industrial ethanol to help stabilize prices.
Hansen said the European farming sector is currently under pressure due to multiple challenges, including animal diseases and market uncertainty. He also addressed ongoing EU trade negotiations with Australia.
