Kirkland vs. Brand Blind Tasting | Same/Similar Vintage, Same Origin

In this tasting, we compare four Kirkland Signature wines with non-Kirkland wines from the same/similar vintage and the same region.

Three of the pairings come from France, including regions like southern France, Margaux in Bordeaux, and others.
The goal is simple: remove the label bias and focus purely on what’s in the glass.

Patrick Farrell MW leads the tasting, joined by Andre Romano and Min, as we explore whether Kirkland wines can truly stand up to their branded counterparts when origin is controlled.

No hype.
No price bias.
Just blind tasting and honest discussion.

  1. 민님 갈수록 실력이 늘어가는 것 같네요. 대단합니다.
오늘도 좋은 영상 올려주셔서 정말 감사합니다.
    저도 이번에 커클랜드 와인을 도전해봐야겠어요.

  2. I remember a video from the old wineking days where Peter praised a bottle of 16 ragnaie and it made me go out and buy a 19 for myself, which I still have. I'm definitely sweating a little. hopefully some aging is all it needs. I did "only" pay ~67 for it. I'm very tempted to find a 19 Costco and do a comparison one day

  3. I had le regniae 2019 for 65 bucks, and it was magnificent. I would have paid 100 for it!!! I think in an hour your results would have been different. The Kirkland wine is still an unbelievable value at 21 dollars though.

  5. I've had a Gigondas (Clos Derriere Vieille, 2017) from Domaine Santa Duc and it was amazing. It was incredibly deep and chamaleonic, as it kept showing different aromatics for a long time without losing any precision. It was a wonderful bottle.

On the other hand, I've bought 3 bottles of le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino (single winyard: Petroso, 2019) on auction.
So I decided it might make sense to try them at different stages and open the first one few weeks ago.
Based on that experience alone I could never justify spending that much money on it, to be fair, as the tannins were very chalky (albeit not necessarily astringent) but the individual structural components did not prove to be well enough integrated yet.
The nose did not display quite the charme I found in other less expensive Sangiovese-based bottlings, either.
Gotta hope the next bottles develope better in my fridge, or I might feel a little betrayed 😂

  6. 2021 Kirkland Barolo is cheap compared to branded Barolo, and compares well. I would be a good choice for this sort of comparison.

  7. Patrick/Min – I recently got half a case each of the Fonbadet Pauillac, Kirkland Pauillac, Kirkland Margaux and the Baron de Brane, same vintages strangely enough. What are yalls thought on the ideal drinking window for these in terms of aging? Or should I just throw a party and drink them all this weekend lol? Cheers!

  8. Thanks for the interesting tasting. I’ve only tried the 2023 Kirkland Vacqueyras of all of the tasted wines and I found it underwhelming. I thought the 2022 Kirkland Vacqueyras was much better.
