There are three ski resorts in and around Boone, North Carolina that are definitely worth checking out. Information for all three is below, but in this video, we explore our favorite southern slope, a skiing Hidden Gem, the BEECH MOUNTAIN Ski Resort.
BEECH MOUNTAIN Ski Resort
1007 Beech Mountain Parkway, Beech Mountain, NC 28604
The highest ski area in the east at a 5,506-foot peak elevation. With 17 trails on the slopes, six chair lifts, two surface lifts, and a vertical drop of 830 feet, Beech Mountain offers a variety of terrain for skiing and snowboarding.
In the center of the Beech Tree Village are cozy fire pits for socializing, shopping, and dining, plus a brewery, tap room, and the 5506′ Sky Bar. There are also snow tubing lanes at the base of the slopes. Ski School and Youth Learning Center are on site. Enjoy discounts on lift tickets mid-week, including Student night on Tuesdays, Men’s night on Wednesday, and Ladies night every Thursday throughout the season.
APPALACHIAN Ski Mountain
940 Ski Mountain Road, Blowing Rock, NC 28605
North Carolina’s first ski area, open since 1962. 2 Quad Chairlifts, 1 Double Chairlift, 2 Conveyor Lifts, 1 Handle Pull Lift. Thirteen runs, including 4 Terrain Parks. The ski area originally opened as the “Blowing Rock Ski Lodge” and was renamed to Appalachian Ski Mountain under new owners in 1968.
Appalachian Ski Mountain hosts several events and competitions throughout the season. The French-Swiss Ski College on-site can provide exceptional instruction while you get out on the slopes. Enjoy ice skating, including lessons, at the Zamboni-maintained outdoor ice rink.
SUGAR MOUNTAIN Ski Resort
1009 Sugar Mountain Drive, Banner Elk, NC 28604
NC’s largest snow sports area with 20 runs on the mountain’s 125 skiable acres from beginner to expert including 6 lifts and snow tubing park. The resort has 100% snowmaking capabilities and a 1,200 ft. difference from summit to the lodge.
The resort also has ski and snowboard schools for all ages and abilities, equipment rental shops, an outdoor ice skating rink, snow tubing lanes, two cafeterias, the Last Run Lounge restaurant, Sugar Mountain Sports Shop, winter value packages and more. Summer activities include NORBA National Mountain Bike Series event, scenic lift rides, hiking, biking, and Oktoberfest.
