La joie de vivre!

Description of Us:
We are a couple of American Francophiles who have come to truly appreciate so many things about French culture. We love the food, wine, art, and history of France, but especially the people we have met along the way. Join us as we make our dream of living in France a reality. Follow us as we explore the French living and a new life there with our beloved dog, Bernice. We enjoy learning about stone house renovation, wine, cooking, brocante shopping, and the French community we are now a part of.

  1. Those windmills are all over Illinois. Where our son lives out in the country homeowners have "no windmills" signs up. They are also in the North Sea east of England where I grew up.

  2. The country side is so beautiful if only for not having billboards and flashy signs along roads even in the small towns, polluting the view and stifling our peace of mind whilst traveling. Loved the tapestries at the brocante. Happy peacemaking 2026!

  3. The cartoon plates were made by Faïencerie de Gien and that stamp was used between 1886 and 1938.
Probably late 19th C as they were very popular in that period (Google is my friend).

  4. I love that you had French friends over for dinner. IMHO, that’s the best way to make oneself speak & learn French. I’ll admit that after a 2 & 1/2 hour French dinner party I feel a bit overwhelmed, but it’s all good.

  5. My preferred quote from the plates :

"Est ce que tu ne t'es jamais mordu les oreilles en riant ?"
"Have you ever bitten your ears while laughing?"

    I don't think I have yet : I need to laugh louder !

  6. Happy new year April and Michael. I too agree that the wind mills are magnificent especially those that generate electricity. I sm familiar with the borcante you visited as I generally stay a month or more in La Trimouille about 12 minutes from Montmorillon. I am in the states at my cape May farm house looking forward to returning perhaps this march.
Thank-you for your inspiring work. Bientôt….Joseph.

  7. I love your videos. I live around the corner in between Chateauponsac and Bellac (where the Brocante is).
Re wind turbines. They are hated around here as they are so bad for bats and birds amongst other things (concrete, fiberglass and their huge carbon footprint!) They are heavily subsidised and people who host them on their land make good money from them, often not realising they are responsible for their dismantling when finished with. It is an extremely contentious issue and many mayors and councils have been on the 'inside' and consequently prosecuted.
I know many people buying around here were not told that turbines were being built on the land next door and it has caused much distress.

  8. We are enjoying your brocante trips. Have you ever been to Bonkers in La souterraine? Worth a little look if you’re up there. Not far from you ❤

  9. Hello, I'm new to your channel, and I think you guys are down by limoges. I an American caretaker of Chateau Sallandrouze in Aubusson, creuse. We see a lot of British, but not many Americans this far South . I'm glad I found your channel. Good luck to you both.
