I vote for wall color
I think it’s depends on what you’re trying to accomplish with the room. This was a great post showing the effects of paint on the perceived shape of the room.
I’ve got soffits like that in my kitchen and because the ceilings are only 9′ with the soffit at 8′ I painted both the walls and ceilings the same color (SW White Snow)
