This week on our Family & Friends Friday Postcard, Tran and I spent a relaxing seven nights in Sanur, Bali, Indonesia.
After two wonderful and adventure-filled weeks exploring many of Bali’s major cultural and scenic sites, we decided it was time to slow down a bit and enjoy some much-needed “down time.” As full-time world travelers rather than traditional tourists, we have learned that slower weeks are just as important as busy sightseeing weeks.
Sanur turned out to be the perfect place to recharge. We spent time walking along Sanur’s beautiful beachfront promenade, enjoying the ocean views, warm tropical weather, and relaxed atmosphere that makes this coastal town so appealing.
One unexpected highlight of the week was discovering Sanur’s beautiful new shopping mall, which includes a modern movie theater showing films in English. Back in the United States, going to the movies was always something we enjoyed together, but while traveling overseas it can often be difficult—or even impossible—to find English-language movie theaters.
This week we enjoyed seeing The Devil Wears Prada 2, Project Hail Mary, and In The Grey, with plans to see even more movies before leaving Bali. It may sound simple, but it was genuinely fun to reconnect with one of our favorite “normal life” activities while living abroad full-time.
We also spent our evenings enjoying Sanur’s many excellent international restaurants, with options ranging from Italian and French cuisine to Greek, American, and traditional Indonesian dishes. The relaxed dining scene and walkable beachfront atmosphere made Sanur a very easy place to settle into for a week.
As we continue our journey through Indonesia, we remain deeply touched by the warmth, kindness, and genuine friendliness of the Indonesian people. Everywhere we go, we are welcomed with smiles and hospitality that continue to make our travels incredibly meaningful.
Next week, we leave Bali and head to Flores Island—the launching point for visiting Komodo National Park and seeing the famous Komodo Dragons. We are very excited for the next chapter of our adventure!

Good to see you both this morning. Love that you two are getting a chance to slow down and just enjoy the days there. I have learned I enjoy some time away without a super busy plan. When you said the mall I thought you both had lost your minds being away from Texas for so long LOL LOL LOL LOL See you guys at the next location. Stay and safe and keep chasing the sun.
