Light on dark or dark on light?

I just did a test run on some butcher paper for a stencil that I want to do as an accent wall in my bedroom. I accidentally reversed the colors – meant to do the darker color as the base and lighter as the pattern. I kind of like this version though.

I haven’t done a reverse version but if anyone has thoughts on dark over light or vice versa, I’d love it o hear them.
