I (30F) just bought a home and this is the first room you see when you enter the house. It has a cable/hole thingy for a TV but I will already have a living room in the house, so not sure if I want a second TV room or if I should do something else with this space.
Renovations will be starting soon so I have to decide asap….do I keep the wall structure or take it down to have a clean slate? What would you do here? Ideas welcomed!

I would remove. It limits how you can arrange your furniture. Also I think it looks a bit silly.
I would take it down if you are already planning a renovation. It is distracting and superfluous. You’ll have more flexibility to do other things with that space.
Shinto shrines (jinja) are sacred sites in Japan dedicated to local kami (deities or spirits), usually marked by a, typically vermilion, torii gate.
So if you want to pursue a Japanese theme in this room, you have a great foundation.
Otherwise, you should remove it, as anyone who knows what this is will be caught off guard if you decorate with a different focus.
Interior Designer here, I’d Remove because it’s a bit odd and extremely limiting to your room. I would rather have a flat wall that you could add a TV and nice buffet or anything else. Really congrats on your new home!
