I’m looking for a rug for a baby boy nursery with a loose theme of “baby with a MOMA membership” — and the rug has been a challenge. Looking for wool/cotton, not brown/orange, avoiding tufted (because of glue/shedding), and ideally something softish for baby knees and not impossible to clean (professional cleaning OK).

I’ve stumbled upon “sweater rugs” (here is West Elm’s ver), which seem like a cousin to “wool bubble rugs”. What I love about these is I can get a very colorful rug and have found some deals that put an 8×10 at about $1000, or less. No reviews anywhere. Are these practical at all or do they look terrible after short lives? Anyone have first-hand experience?

I have a rug that is a chunky knit and has the feel of a heavy blanket. I love it. Luckily my cat has not vomited on it (yet). It will be terrible to clean if that happens because it will get all in the knit and chunky fibers. I think it sounds great for a baby, not so great if you have pets though. I got mine on clearance at World Market for like $80. No way I’d spend $1000 on a rug while having pets.

So if you have pets, no. Baby only and no pets – go for it!
