I would love some feedback. We finally ripped out the gross carpet in our upstairs loft. Now the only carpet left in the house is on the stairs. We are going to replace the stairs with new carpet but I have 2 questions.

Would you do carpet on the landing part of the stairs or match either the upstairs or downstairs Lvp (upstairs is dark, downstairs is a bit lighter)?

What color carpet should we do knowing that our downstairs has a mustard yellow and olive green and the upstairs will be a very deep plum purple.

Attaching stairs pic for reference

Regarding color :What do the steps look like underneath… I know it’s not exactly your question but based on the color palette you mentioned I would rip it all out and do a runner in a fun pattern that marries the color scheme.
Otherwise maybe a sisal tone and loom type, although I’m not sure how clean that would keep.

You have 3 floors visible in the first picture, so I would try to pick a stair flooring that matches the existing flooring as much as possible. It makes the house feel more put together and connected.

Ugh this happened to me. I had wood plank tiles on the first floor, this waterproof vinyl wood plank flooring on the second floor and the only carpet was the stair on the stairs gray carpet and hated it. I had enough vinyl planks to do the stairs but I sold the house and moved out of state for work before I had the stairs done. I was going to be charged extra because my stairs were a U shape and the landings were not flat squares like yours, mine were triangular steps and apparently the flooring company wanted more money. I had already paid them extra this and extras that and they stole tools it was a nightmare so I left the carpet and after a huge back and forth was able to obtain the stolen tools and was told it was just a misunderstanding. I guess the one worker had similar tools and just took them thinking they were his. A few months after I sold the house the new owners reached our to ask some questions about the horrible neighbors and also told me that they actually used the left over vinyl wood plank flooring too do the stairs themselves and it looked so much better. I never saw it they didn’t send a photo but I always hated that the only carpet was the stairs.

Since it sounds like you already have a bunch of non-matching floors, just pick a carpet color you like. It doesn’t have to match, especially if you plan to update the rest of the home’s floors eventually.
