We’re finally tackling the roof — fitting wood fibre insulation between the rafters of our 19th century French townhouse. It’s a job we’ve been putting off for two years, and honestly, it might be the most satisfying renovation work we’ve done so far.
Meanwhile, the greenhouse gets its new paint colour, the first seedlings of spring go in, and we take a morning off to hunt down the best chocolatines, cannelés, and pain gascon in Bordeaux.

Thank you for taking us into town and making me so hungry for all the yummy pastries and bread. So delicious! You’re doing a lovely job with all the restorations! ❤
Ah, lovely old-fashioned music! Your insulation seems impressive 🤞
Best wishes, your work is beautiful. Loved the music and garden flowers and trees. Cher

I thought in attics you need to leave space between the roof and insulation for air flow? If you don’t won’t you get mold? It shouldn’t have been placed between the batting. I worked in real estate for 20 years and saw way more bad roofs than I wanted on inspections because of this mistake
Insulation touching the roof deck is bad. You need to allow the roof to stay cold in the winter. The heat will dissipate through the insulation and cause melting of the snow which will refreeze and cause ice dams.
Sorry good luck
Your tree is stunning . Great progress happening there . 🎉
Yeay! An episode!
One of your best episodes yet! Magnolia, the Hugo jig, attic progress, stroll through Bordeaux (I admit to getting lost in the world of Boulangerie pas a' pas vids from time to time), the greenhouse, the planting — the content, pacing, music, and editing were spot on!!
Looking forward to seeing your restored gate! Maybe it could serve as a backdrop for some artwork — do you have any inner graffiti impulses??
Nothing better than a nice reward 🥐 after some intense work out and I must give a special shout out to your beautiful tree. That pink carpet it’s producing is dreamy 🌸
Your garden is going to look really lovely this summer. I can't wait. The work in the attic looks really good too! Nice work.
Gorgeous flowering Magnolia tree. Spring is in the air for Europe.
What progress! You have worked so hard again and I loved the device for cutting the blocks! Ingenious! Can you feel a difference in the attic already? It’s one of those nasty jobs that has to be faced but when it’s finished you will wonder how on earth you managed to do that!
Lovely to see what Bordeaux has to offer too. Thanks for sharing.
Great video and good job!
P.S. love your music
Very ingenious with your home made jig.
Great choice on the color for the greenhouse. I think too, once all the other elements are in place, the garden will look heavenly! I just started watching your channel, and I really am enjoying it. I have a friend in Bordeaux, she is the head of the English dept at University of Bordeaux. She was an exchange student at our family home in San Diego CA back in the early 1980's and we have been friends every since, visiting each other and watching our families grow. She is one of two French sisters I have, the other is in Moneteau. My heart belongs to France, it is truly a special place!
Your tree in the front garden is beautiful. Magnolia I think.
😅… an electric knife makes the cutting easier….
Great work and superb results on both the roof and the greenhouse; building the template jig feels like "Industrial Revolution" engineering skill.
Hey guys. I'm so glad you're doing this attic project because we're wanting to do the same thing in our house in Amboise. Our roof is a mix of three medieval homes with various old work. The wood insulation between the battens is really interesting as I thought it would have to be rockwool. So do you have any concerns about possible future small roof leaks getting into the wood fiber and ultimately rotting things? I thought there would have to be a moisture barrier which would mean re-tiling the roof (not desirable 🙂 My concern for our place is that it's inevitable that we will have small leaks over the years because the slates are so old. I'm still collecting ideas like yours.
Also the 'What we use' web page is so helpful.
Thanks
