Moving soon to an 1940’s farm house and this is the main entry mud room. Is there any solution to the fake grass carpet other than ripping it up? Would that be your first move in this space or address the trim and awful hand painted vines? The rest of the house is rather lovely with original beautiful knotty pine panels and original wood floors. This room however is keeping me awake at night. Thanks.
The colors IRL are much more devoid of richness. The red reminds me of Ronald McDonald. Ugh.

I would definitely pull up the putt putt carpet! Stenciling was popular about 30 years ago. I know because I did it in my dinette. Repaint, get new flooring and it will look like a new room. Or you can keep the green carpet, drill a hole in the floor and invite friends over for a putting contest!

I’d tackle the red first. It’s so jarring. Once I’d neutralized that color with something that didn’t clash with the green, I would think about the green.

Of course you rip it up. Throw down some LVP, perfect use case. And paint it all white. Really, it is not a mud room though, it is like a verandah/sunroom/porch. Maybe you remake that? You want to assess the structural integrity of all of it before doing aesthetics IMO. I assumed it has no heat or cooling. If you have budget, relocation the W/D or make it into a closet and reimagine whole space into a real sun room.

I’d remove it. Get down to cement then do peel & stick and a big, durable rug.

Get a few small putters and a little windmill. Several golf balls in various colors. Visitors to your home will be delighted.
