Time to up-pot my Celery D’Elne from Baker Creek! I’ll be honest – I’m terrible at growing celery, but this French variety might be my redemption.
🇫🇷 About Celery D’Elne:
Scientific Name: Apium graveolens (French variety)
Origin: France (refined and reliable cultivar)
Size: Short and stout, averaging 18″ tall
Characteristics: Upright, tidy plants with nutritious green stalks
Flavor: Gourmet flavor profile
Reputation: Relatively easy to grow (we’ll see!)

😅 My Celery Confession:
I’m honestly not good at growing celery
Tried multiple varieties both from seed and transplants
Very little success in the past
These seedlings are already showing promise BUT…
They’re incredibly delicate (just broke 2 bringing them upstairs!)

🌱 Current Growing Challenges:
Timing Issues: Behind on up-potting but ahead on growing
Scaling Problems: Learning what changes when you increase volume
Delicate Handling: Need to be much more gentle with celery
Pest Management: Dealing with increased pest pressure

📦 Up-Potting Strategy:
Moving from seed tray to individual containers
Transplanting alongside peppers (similar timing needs)
Being extra careful with the fragile stems
Hoping this French variety lives up to its “easy to grow” reputation

🎯 Why I Keep Trying Celery:
Want more celery in the garden overall
French breeding often means better adaptation
Compact 18″ size perfect for my intensive growing style

Hope for Celery Success:
Source: Baker Creek Rare Seeds
French Heritage: Traditional refined variety
Garden Goal: Fresh celery for cooking and fresh eating
Will this be the celery variety that finally succeeds in my garden? Stay tuned to find out!
