US vs UK Olive Garden vs Zizzi | Italian Chains | Food Wars | Insider Food

  1. I asked an Italian about the difference of spelling of lasagne (UK usage spelling) and lasagna (American usage spelling) and apparently it depends on the region of Italy as to how they spell it. Still irks me when the British items have are spelt lasagna on programmes like this, though.

  2. I know that we, in Britain, can hardly claim to have authentic Italian dishes, but the American versions just seem like nothing like actual Italian food to me.

  3. I always find it funny that Brits can’t believe how much better US Italian food tastes. The Italian Americans definitely take food seriously and they’re very competitive about it. Everyone benefits from it. 😋

  4. PSA:
If you live in the U.S does not have Italian parents, have never lived in Italy, you are probably not an italian.

  5. I've been to Olive Garden (in the USA and in Canada) and two different Zizzi's restaurants (Leicester, England and Newport, Wales). Olive Garden tends to be noisier, with more little children, and better for families. The Zizzi's were filled with couples on dates or groups of adults. The Zizzi's were quieter, and had less rushed service, as well. It was just a better experience than Olive Garden.

  6. GB Here – if in town, then Zizzi is one of my favourites. However, we've started going to our local (500m walk) family run Italian (Merola's) or for pizza & cocktails, Fizz'n'Flour in the next neighbourhood – say 1.2km walk.

  7. I ate at Zizzi once. Once.

Olive Garden is…okay for what it is. A sit-down sort-of Italian-ish restaurant which isn't authentic, but won't give you food poisoning if you're traveling. And the bread sticks rock.

  8. Never seen a Zizzi but luckily there's legit Italian place not far from me: complete with the grumpy, old Sicilian couple who own it

  9. I am particularly annoyed this episode just dumps the viewer in the middle of a diatribe on breadsticks, without so much as a "This is Food Wars" followed by a welcome kiss.

  10. I much prefer to go to one of the MANY Italian restaurants run by real Italians here in UK (not fake Italians like in the USA, where people had some great great grandad from Italy). There’s one in every small town, 50 in every city.

  11. As an American who just went to Rome last fall, fettuccine Alfredo sucks compared to real caccio e pepe that was amazing and the red sauce pasta with bacon it was called Amaratriciana I think lol

  12. The disrespect for the Parmigiana. Please try it. It is absolutely delicious and more people need to know about it. I don't know about the quality of the dish in any of these restaurants, I've only had it made by Italians and once in France and I don't know where their chef was from.

  13. Ngl pizza express is like the worst of the pizza places in the uk – 55 quid for 3 pizzas that were inedible

  14. Harry, please try to learn to pronounce the Italian meal ingredients in the more common pronunciation. You do not have to be so articulate.

  15. All british food is better than the US, because it doesn't contain known carcinogens in preservatives, flavour enhancers and food colouring, meat pumped full of hormones or vegetables doused in pesticides

  16. Food tours the Dutch tour maybe a thing? 😅 would love to show the special foods in the Netherlands😅 and what you would think of it.
