We traveled with our Westie to Biarritz, France! Traveling with a dog always comes with surprises and Sami added his own twist on our little trip… when he peed on the bed of our Airbnb. Yes he did! Why did he do that? Let’s dive into the story!

Bonjour Sami! ❤
In the Netherlands usually dogs are allowed in restaurants with a closed kitchen. I know whether dogs are allowed to sit on a ordinary chair or couch, which are for human guests. Usually dogs are not allowed in supermarkets. Our Westie, Puck, is also always a magnet, which is sometimes annoying for she gets overwhelmed / oversaturated rather quickly.
Maybe a dog before him had peed in those spots and Sami just reclaimed the space.😊
Bonjour Sami 🐾 dog 🐶
You have a very nice dog, I like him❤.
In two months I will become the owner of the first dog in my life and it is a female of the same breed as you have. I am interested in where you buy clothes for your Samy
Best regards from Dubrovnik 🎶🎶

Skye sleeps the moment her head is the car seat.
Stella The Westie 100% had a good understanding of “pissed off”. If she was mad, she would pee. 🙄 Or destroy garbage. To be fair, pee was easier to clean up.
I also have a feng shui detector. Sprocket The Westie does not allow laundry baskets (or anything else) to sit on the floor for more than a few hours. I can’t imagine why he does this, unless he can feel the “energy blockage”. 🤷🏻♀️ Keeps me on task while doing laundry!

It would make me wonder if another dog had marked in those spots before. Once another dog has marked a spot, it is difficult for even the most disciplined dog to avoid the temptation of leaving their own mark as well. Even if the duvet had been previously washed, dogs have sensitive noses and Sami still might have been able to detect it.
Sami had an on-purpose. My Westie, on rare occasions when he wasn't happy with something would have an on-purpose to let me know.
This is why I will never get another male dog again, they mark. If another dog was there and marked they will mark it. If a female dog was there they will mark. It's not realistic to think you can control the behavior. I had to use a belly band with pads when I had a cute as button male maltese. We loved him unconditionally but we had to manage the marking all the time. I have heard that if you neuter them before they start marking then maybe they wont start the behavior. My guess is others that have used the used that Airbnb had a dog that marked and Sami just did what his instincts took over. These are all issue that a male dog owners needs to manage but your a pro so I'm sure you got handled. My Female Westie doesn't really have this problem.
i think other dog did it before in that place. We can’t smell but dogs nose know better.
I live in the United States it's not very dog friendly. It depends what city or state you are in.
Hi, I'm Allegra.
I've also been to Bearritz which was very nice! (I did years ago…and here I see it already changed)-
Mine sometimes pees on the carrier (I always keep one in my room) because he's excited. When he gets very agitated while playing… or when the "head" of the family is missing in time… then he jumps for joy and….goes to pee…it's all emotion!! However, you are all beautiful and Sami is very sweet…a warm greeting: have a good holiday!!
I suspect another dog had been in the apartment and he smelled it and needed to mark his territory.
The first time I brought my Westie to my new condo – it was empty – no furniture – he did a wee poo in every single room!!! So out of character for my boy as well. 😱😱😱
Sami. Archie and I say Hello from the States ❤
Zoey pees when shes incredibly happy to see you. ❤
My Westie is very well trained indoors too and never has accidents. However a few months ago he had his vaccination shot at the vet and soon as I put him down on the floor he went to the door frame and peed. As he peed he was looking at the vet in the eyes as if to say “take that” 😅 That was definitely a defiant and on purpose pee. I’ve never seen him do that before, so embarrassing.
Sami is so cute… but I think dogs shouldn't sleep in our beds, they have their own bed. Greetings from Maya (a westy from Peru) 🙂
Milo pee one time on carpet . Once in a week we have to leave me at home as we both have to goto work. Milo is intelligent that he now knows that he is not going out with us and he waits for us to come back home.
I so enjoy Sami’s adventures with you. My Westie, Henri, was also guilty of doing an “on-purpose “. His, rather unfortunately, was on someone’s shoe when we were walking in the park. Didn’t like that person or really liked that person? I have no idea what was in his mind other than making his own statement! Quite embarrassing to be honest!
Here is the UK there are a lot of places that allow dogs but also a lot that don't. We only go wherever our Westie is allowed 🙂
Oh no! Lucky it wasn’t on the sofa or carpet! Probably as you guessed but keep an eye on him to make sure that he does not have a bladder infection. He probably was nervous and needed time to settle in. Hope your Airbnb host wasn’t upset.
In the USA in general dogs are not allowed in places where food is served. Sometimes a wine bar or outdoor dining allowed but usually you’d have to bring a blanket for under the table. Some communities are quite dog friendly aside from that.
Hi Miruna , Bobby and Sami. Thank you for sharing your trip to France with us. Who can not fall in love with Sami !!!.
My Katie would pee in the bed whenever she had a urinary tract infection. If I hadn't noticed any other sign of it, that was a definite sign!

You haven’t lived until your dog lifts his leg on a stranger’s pant leg 🫢
I love Sami, thank you for sharing him with the world. My Westie once peed on the bed when he was sick with a bladder infection.
❤ 👍 🐻❄️
Sami looks like our westie Willow.
How sweet, he panicked. My dog used to pee when he was scared, but that was when he just came to his new house. He is not afraid anymore. Actually, I didn't even take him to the bath or to cut his hair so he could have very peaceful months before another unpleasant experience. And I leave him with my parents so he is never completely alone. I think you're right about letting him with your stuff. My sister's dog borrowed sockets and pijamas from every member of the family to smell them while he is in his bed. He just took one of each. He's not borrowing cloths all the time, he kept the smells he needed in his bed. By the way, my dog doesn't take my stuff because I use a little everything I give him so it has my smell.
Hey! Cool trip 🙂 westies are usually really excited for car rides. Mine is the first one to board the car and is really curious to watch the road. In Lithuania, bigger shopping malls recently started letting dogs inside. Some restaurants are pet friendly too; waiters even come up and ask if the dog wants some water. One cinema franchise offers movie seances where you can bring your dog as well, but I imagine that must be quite chaotic and uncomfortable for dogs as it's loud and they would have to sit still for some time. Some office jobs allow you to bring your pet to work, but there is a concern regarding allergies, so if someone is allergic it's common sense that you wouldn't bring pets. But you know 🙂 your dog's world is as big as you allow it to be, and they always enjoy hanging out with you. Also, he probably peed to make it homier.
