You GO, girl!! My father was an officer too, but I was conceived on the boat back from Stuttgart…I have always wanted to live in France and get fluent. Spent 3 days in Paris back in the 70’s… maybe I’ll see you over there! 😃😃
Love ginger tea, ginger snaps, etc.
They have one helluvan accent in Perpginan.
Looking forward to seeing your move and what you encounter. From one elder gal to another I applaud what you are doing, go make your dreams happen. Thanks for sharing with us!
We're moving from Portugal to France in 2 months. It might be of no consequence, but Perpignan's mayor is the partner of Marine LePen. So, it might be obvious (to some) that it's one of the central hubs for the far right. It's sad, but much of that area is. Beziers is considered an "incubator" for far right ideals (we were interested in that town, but nope). Good luck with your move!
How is the cost of living in that area of France? How long is the wait for medical insurance? ❤
Oh what a wonderful adventure. I love your attitude and spirit. What a joy and what an inspiration. ❤❤❤❤
This is so exciting!! I was always so intrigued when you would say that you are moving to Europe in the future. Thank you so much for discussing more about it in this video!! I love your content! I know you’ve mentioned that much of your content is geared towards those who are older. I’m 30 and get so much from your videos!
Dear Ms Elder Gal,
I can already smell the French café. So exciting!
Word of caution though; unless you want to come back to the US to extent your long-term stay visa, pls make sure that you are checking the correct box on the application form when you apply for it before you leave the US. Apparently, it can be an easy mistake but costly one.
Sometime ago, I came accross to your channel and thought, it's a shame this lady is not going to be living in France… and today, out of nowhere your video appeared on my little screen about your move to France. How wonderful is it that, you WERE planning on going afterall.
Well, I will be 78 in a few days….a year ago started thinking about relocating to France sometime in 2025 and I must say, I can relate to that feeling of high anxiety and joy at the same time. It is exhausting! Isn't it? I am still researching Toulon vs Nice area. Also, cost, banks, healthcare, etc. All input will be greatly appreciated. By the way, love your hair! Trés chic. .
Do you need a chaperone? I can pay. My way. 😂
What are you doing with your with your senior housing? If you decide to come back, won't it take a lot of time to get back in?
Hello from CA. Congratulations on moving out of US, dealing with housing & emerging yourself in a different culture. My college professor, Alice Dewey told me the best way to live & get out of your head is to speak another language, preferably in the country. You will find plenty of people to converse with in France. The US is not the place to be old & alone. Too many women sitting in alone their cars scrolling on phones with dogs. Just too expensive! Very exciting!
Oh take me with you plzzzz😢😂😂
Do you still get to keep you our Social Security?
So impressed and excited for you. I wish I was as brave as you.
Thank you for taking the time.. Looking forward to watching your other videos too..
I am so excited, for the new adventure your sharing with us!
I am currently doing time in Seattle. 🙄 I totally get it. Have you been in France before. I experienced that country not very welcoming to foreigners. Good luck!
Bonjur What happens after 5 years on a tourist visa? Can't get permanent residency nor citizenship in France with this type of visa.. What if laws change and can't renew it for one reason or another ?
I'm 69 and so tired of my "rut". Living in extreme northern Michigan, the "endless winter" is beginning…again. My health is good…my partner not as good (but OK). I have NO idea what to do but know that life has become a real drag. I would love to move overseas…I have no choldren…no real ties here. Considering that none of us this age know how much longer we have, why not?
Hi,
I just came across your channel while researching moving to France. I plan to move in 4 years, I live in NYC and always wanted to retire early and travel. But it is very expensive living in NYC, and I know I would not be able to live here when I retire. I have been doing my research, and France seems to be the best option for me and for my teenage daughter. I want her to live a different life other than this rat race of NYC. I think you are so brave for making the move, and I can't wait for you to include your viewers on this great adventure.
Best of luck with your visa!
Peace from NYC
Clarissa
Hi Alison watch your channel from time to time I myself am retired a few years older 72 I was watching your video on moving to France but I have one big concern WHERE IS YOUR SUPPORT Group who is going to take care you in your older years without your family aren't you taking a big risk. Its not healthy being alone in such a far away country,I think I would think about this a little more for your own sake. Just someone who is concerned
Best wishes Greg
I
Best wishes,
Greg
I salute you for your courage and determination. I grew up working in France (Paris) before moving to the U.S. with family so I have dual citizenship (French/US). I should be qualified for retirement 4 years ago in the French system, while I know I'll get little to nothing from SS here in the US even if I'm waiting 3 more years for full retirement so returning to France seems to be a no brainer. Yet, I don't know where to start? I have a beautiful home here in Austin which I nicely decorated and developed many friendships. I don't have much income right now to spend on hiring consultants. I wonder how did you transfer your asset and what are the taxes implication here in the US ? I'm going to be 65 in 2025. Do I need to sign up for medicare ? And how can I afford medicare premium with little to no income and perhaps a miniature SS assistance ? I want to move to France for the same reason of accessibility and affordability in healthcare and lower cost of living .
Try not to touch anything while in San Francisco. And try not to step in human feces and snot and spit and dog poo, or a drugged person lying on the ground. There's a video just uploaded here on YT titled San Francisco Ravaged by Fentanyl.
Joyeux Anniversaire, Allison. Congratulations on your plan to go to France! I lived in Paris in the 70s, a long time ago. Am 72 now. Anyway, I'm happy for you.
Awesome 👏
I'm also planning an overseas adventure; not quite sure where yet. – curious what you are doing with all your stuff – sell or store? Thanks!
Good for you! I'm so proud of you, you are courageous
Congratulations! Just please don’t have high expectations as to the willingness of the French to become friends with you. They tend to keep fairly to themselves, and many are not that open to immigrants. France is far more provincial than its image projects.
Wishing you every blessing and a fantastic experience over there, despite these hurdles to overcome! Finding expats sounds great
How exciting. I so admire you for following your dream on a limited budget. I will be 70 in 3 months but my 2 sons & a grandbaby will keep me in my home country of NZ. I did a big Europen trip in a campervan 1980 -1981. Such alot of fun 😊
I have moved from UK to Canada this past week (via work permit and PR application) and I'm getting on a bit myself! And you're right, you never know if it will work out unless you try.
Check into tutoring English on Cambly
I’m 70 also and moving to France this spring!
Great! I loved it there. Was in Paris 10 days in 1999. Enjoy all that Lucious food ❤. Great for your channel too I bet!
I’m 73 and have dual citizenship US andCanada… I am moving back to Canada in January. Good luck to you!
Hello
Welcome to France. Perpignan is a nice place and the weather is very good just a bit hot in summer, the train station was decorated by Salvatdor Dali who presented Perpignan train station as the center of the world 😊
Hope you have a great time and don't listen to the clichés on french people, There are very reserved at first but are very friendly as soon as you get to know them, the french are very polite and being over friendly at first is considered as impolite and rude.
Bienvenue et bonne chance
Alain
That is so amazing! I had been planning to go to Paris for a month, but as I have been on a healing journey, I didn't want to overwhelm myself with long flights, language translation, lots of walking, etc. – so I went to Albuquerque which is amazing every single day. I have just started thinking about what I want to do about spending time in France – or another place with great weather, history, and spiritual connections. I am so happy for you. The thought of such lovely places to spend your time – including trips outside of the city – sounds AMAZING. So great to have checked all the particulars out!
Fantastic. Banking? Are you keeping bank accounts in USA and transferring $$, or what? I'm 81years and looking to relocate abroad permanently. What a relief it will be to be out of here. You will love it, after initial moving turmoil. 🧡💛🧡
Watching you from France
Perpignan?
Are you kidding!
I wish you good luck with your move. The health care system in France has many advantages but it can be difficult finding a good GP or some specialists (ophtalmology, dermatology, gynecology, dentists, …) especially in smaller cities. The good ones are not taking new patients. Do not underestimate how nightmarish French administration is, it is one of the biggest drawbacks of France whether you are foreign or French. Also, be mindful of safety questions. You will understand what I mean once you have moved and lived there. Last but not least, you will have to gain good language proficiency if you really plan to stay there long term.
Would you be willing to listen to a few things I need help with. Im a stage 4 cancer patient and some serious situations have come up I would like your opinion on.
Im a 54 year old woman. What do you think?
Me and my husband live 30 minutes from Dijon (he works there), it is somewhat sunny but not nearly as much as the south of France, we actually live halfway between Dijon and Besancon, in Franche Comte, we find te pace of life in this part of France to be much more mellow and appeasing than in the south
good for you..I planned move to spain & then covid hit & many countries have changed their visa structures. maybe I missed but which visa are you doing? looking forward to your breakdown. yolo
Bonne chance !
Good for you!
Congraultions! I wonder who will be there first, you or I? I'm still waiting for a property sale in the UK to complete before I buy somewhere over there. I've seen a couple of properties that I am interested in, plus some building land, which is very cheap over there. P.S. I'm 66
Great to visit see if you like it. Do you speak French? I love USA🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸! The best is yet to come!
"Living On Extended Time". I know I'll write a song about that! Thanks for the inspiration! I'm Living It!
I'm 66 and blessed to still be alive. Hospice was going to take me away! Live It!!!!
I don't Care what others think about my lifestyle. I still have a life!
Even when I was younger, I took risk. I, too, love a warm, sunny climate. I didn't want to wait until I retired to move to Florida. I took that risk 34 years ago. I came down with nothing! I didn't know anyone. It was the Best decision I ever made. Why wait for 'someday ', when someday may never come.
Congratulations on your decision to move forward! How exciting! I'm looking forward to hearing about your journey.
Happy Trails!!! ✌️❤️
