Your opinion is required this week! In regards to the original cast iron bath from the house. Get involved and drop a comment below!
This week the bathrooms come along leaps and bounds.
With both of us working on them progress speeds up.
What could be funnier than watching Clare with a sander?
We also take the time to repurpose some of the items that were originally in the house when we bought the place with some stunning results.
We conclude this week – of course! With wine of the week and a Merlot – not just our dog but one of our favourite wines…

[Applause] So I’ve just been putting some primer onto the walls inside the shower cubicle got to let that dry now for at least 4 hours so that’s all that’s going to happen in here today although I’ll go and prime the other shower cubicle walls um that helps the waterproofing stuff
Stick to it uh which is what I’ll be applying tomorrow um so yeah putting waterproofing everything prior to tiling so just another barrier just in case there’s any any water that goes through the joints of the tiles so yeah protecting it for the future well good morning
Um so yeah the primer I put on the shower walls um that’s all gone off overnight and yeah dry to the touch so now I can start putting the waterproofing Compound on it something I need to roll On I started off in the corner there um just as CLA is jointing and taping all the plastic Ward and putting uh jointing tape in the corners a jointing tape is what is supplied with this which just means if there is any movement between the walls this is kind of a little bit
Flexible but because it’s also got the waterproofing on it it should provide a permanent water Barrier so a few weeks ago we bought some furniture and this was one of the items um which is a yeah large unit with a marble top um I’m going to try and cut the top today to fit a wash Bowl on and
Uh a tap to go with that it’s not just a simple hole for this Basin it’s got an overflow Channel which means that um it’s more of a a keyhole shape that I need to cut for it um so yeah it’s not just a straightforward as one drill bit the way
I’m going to cut the hole is actually cut two holes um intersecting um yeah give it to Go [Applause] He Well that’s gone right have a look at it wonderful I need to drill a tap hole on the marble for for the Basin but as we haven’t bought the tap yet I’m not going to do that today I’m going to wait till got the tap and then
It’s not going to be in the wrong place I’m also going to need to modify the unit I’m going to have to cut the top draw here to allow for the waste pipe to go to the base and to allow for the the water pipes to to come in for the Taps
Um when I’ve just been having a look through it I’ve noticed some telltale signs of possibly some woodworm so what I’m going to do is give this a good coat of xylophanes well so uh might as well get them and spray That well I’ve given that unit a decent ding of xylophon so um that should protect everything going forward all right well I’m going to let that all dry off before I find out how to get the waste pipes and everything cut into it so this is the Basin that we’ve got
For the on site and um it actually did come with its own stand but it just sat it on this old sewing machine base and we both went oh we like that so we’re going to try and make that look pretty and fit the Bas onto the top it has
However arrived without a tap hole so I’m going to have to drill that Out with drw free Basin now has a tap hole and it’s in the middle Think I’ve come outside to one of the barns when we bought the house inside there was an old sewing machine in a room and I will show you a picture anyway we’ve taken the top and the actual machine off of the legs and we are left with this now I did have a
Little look on the internet I don’t think it’s of anything historically important there is hundreds of these bases for sewing tables in England in France I don’t know about all over the world but they are 10 a penny and what we’re going to do with this we are going to
Put uh some wooden blocks on the top just to raise it slightly and then we’re going to put the I’m going to say this properly not sink we’re going to put the Basin for the on Suite on top of here firstly however I want to give this a real good clean
Down with some hot soapy water and then I’m going to spray it with a spray Paint back in the on the Matra and I think it is now time to get a bit of plaster board up here to put across this Gap and then this room will be completely separate from this room um so yeah that will enable CLA to to finish the jointing and taping in the
On street here um and I can start cutting the wall for lights and things like that um yeah let’s get on with It here we are the room is now a room I brought in the toilet and Basin just to get them lined up where they’re going to go just to check out really where exactly do we want the lights where do we want the socket where
Do we want the power for the heated tow things like that um actually remarkably spacious in here it’s quite a nice nice room and you come here through the Cupboard toilet a Shower Right so that’s the two wires for the lights that are going to be either side of the mirror in there push through the wall now going to cut a hole for that which will house the socket yes it’s the right Size Hello Merlo not not yet we’re not ready yet it’s a bit early too early so we’re taking the dogs out for an evening walk down R principal to the other end of shenon which is not far at all and there’s a couple of ponies that uh when she remembers she
Brings out carrots for and they seem to like it it’s not really my outfit I this one night rider this one this one’s my favorite this one’s py there Flora what’ you make of that not a lot I look like I’m on day release calling a horse floppy and Night Rider I covered up all of the furniture that could possibly get hit with any backlash of spray paint now I’m about to go in and start this aha there it is put it down for a minute so I’m going in with Dulux color touch silver bye black That’s already an instant transformation um I’m going to let this side dry and then I’m going to come back later flip it over and spray the top half wow fumes however I’m looking for a sander I’ve managed to find two but they’re not the correct ones it’s
Just it’s an absolute dump in here it’s just like dump it and leg it look why why you why is there one of my cafeta Bottoms in here found the Sanders then well so we got two there here’s another two Sanders I don’t know how many you
Can operate at one time got two hands exactly I have the many hands additional four Sanders like this aren’t we lucky aren’t we lucky indeed there you go dear thank you dear all yours so I’m in here all on my Lans today least I have some lights got
Another one to tape and Joint I have the [Applause] Power one of the things I did was remove the old coing from around the room um cuz it wasn’t going to work and I needed anyway it needed to come down um I’ve been a bit overzealous with my plaster removal around the window area here um and a little bit overzealous over
There um what I need to do um just going to trim off the excess up there and then fit some plaster board and then maybe go over it with a a skim of plaster um just to tidy it up really um I’m going to be fitting coing in here
But it won’t cover what I’ve taken Off [Applause] La Well it could have gone better um I have one out of next um some of it’s having to go on quite thick so um it’s not a finished surface at the moment so I’m not going to show you a closeup and I’m not going to show you the state of the floor
Underneath it either cuz a lot of it decided it didn’t want to stick to the Ceiling not so much of it on the floor this time I’m not going to show you but there isn’t so much on the floor at the moment um a lot of it is now up in the ceiling but I’m going to leave it there and come back to it
Tomorrow 5 minutes later I’m getting somewhere unfortunately in this room sorry there’s nowhere for all of the Dust To Go part from out here so it’s getting really dusty but I managed to go over a load of things some them I am covered I managed to do these two tape and
Joint it looks like I’ve had an afternoon with Pablo Escobar other Colombian drug lords are available um um yeah it’s quite hard especially when you’re doing the ceiling um yeah just cracking on really so you know it’s also really hard to film while you’re doing
It I mean the camera that I’m using is my phone and it’s just absolutely White Right well that’s a bit more plaster board up on the wall um insulated behind again to help sort of soundproof between the two rooms this time CLA suggested I put the full panel up at the the top um which means that there is no joint for
Her to fill up there down here I’m going to be tiling so yeah it’ll be that’ll be easily hidden things down I have got another one that I can tape and Joint here you’re in the room aren’t you yeah I’m in the room you’re breathing again I’m in the room what
Time you’re using something that’s got a strong smell to it yes what what what is that seant silic sealant no no children don’t do that go go go go Go I have now flipped the table over and I’m ready to spray the top half just go over any bits I’ve missed as well however I’ve added an item I found this wall scon in a like a Brant kind of shop a few days ago uh 15 I think over the
Years it’s been sprayed many different colors if I’ve got enough paint left I’m going to give this a good spray as well to go in the same on Suite Bathroom and that is another job done yay now this behind me Tada is the original cast iron bath that was in the house when we got here it has moved rooms um as you can see it’s lovely and white apart from it being little bit dirty and having somebody’s office on
The end of it um it’s in pretty good condition the enamel I think there’s only one tiny chip nothing can really go wrong with that don’t want to reenel it however what I would like your opinion on is do I paint the side and the feet of this
Bath or should I just leave it white just to give you a bit more of an understanding of this and of course excuse the mess but all of the fittings in these two bathrooms are Chrome so this is a floor standing bath tap the shower fittings are Chrome the the sink
Taps or the Basin Taps sorry they’re all Chrome and yep don’t get me wrong it would look great with gold but don’t want to go out and Reby everything now so what do you think do I paint it do I paint the sides and then do I paint
The feet another color cuz they’re white as well the bathroom tiles are green so here’s a couple of options there’s this which is Duck Green don’t know really how well that goes with the tiles there’s this which is jungle 7 or there’s Cyprus 2 which matches I
Think that’s the best match with the tiles do you think I should paint the bath sides in Cyprus 2 do you think I should maybe do the feet in Chrome or do I really pimp this bath out now again I know it’s not really going to go with
The Chrome but it’s going to be a bit of a a wow feature do I even do it with gold leaf shall I Gold Leaf the bath and do the feet in green or the opposite way should I do the feet in Gold Leaf and should I do the bath in
Green I’ve got to decide pretty soon so yeah any suggestions with this are welcome I will let you into um a little fact that we did go out and we did buy a couple of mirrors for this bathroom um they’re quite ornate they are gold gold colored but they’re quite big statement
Pieces um I don’t think they’ll really go too badly with all of the chrome accessories and Taps and things but yeah your opinion counts if you’ve got one comment below let’s see with the wonders of YouTube and you through all out the world what this bath could end up looking like
This afternoon I’m back in the world of sanding hell uh I’m ready to go some of my plaster it’s still not gone off uh but I’m just going to crack on and do the rest of it let’s get this show on the road woohoo All [Applause] Well um I’ve been at this for quite a while now uh I’m not taking the mask off cuz it’s still Dusty in here I’ve gone I’ve left those two strips they’re still damp but I’ve also done the wall there the wo there still got to do up there and
Breathe time is ticking on for today I still have to go and walk the dogs and Nick and I’m also going to make a roast Lon I could also do with a bit of a shower now um I’d say that’s a good day’s work making Progress hi and welcome to Wine of the week um red wine this week French unsurprisingly we have a and it was under €6 from our local hyper U I think it’s a brand that is sent worldwide um plastic cork so it’s quite unusual for a French wine it does have the brand
Signature wonky bottle um yes it’s not just we’ve had a few it’s actually wonky bottle yes here it goes so uh well in case you havn’t yet realized it’s because of this grape that we named our dog it is Merlo is named after Merlo anyway we’ve had a good week we
Definitely have it’s been very productive and you’ve been well taking taking a sander to a wall all week yes I don’t know why taking a sander to a wall and if it’s this direction no no thank you for showering as well I thought you liked it dirty anyway if you have liked this

I would totally go for the tub being a matte white and I'd silver leaf the feet. ( The music this week was fire!!! <3. )
Paint them! Something that coordinates with the tiles, but not another green that competes with the tiles. Gold feet might be a consideration, considering the mirrors.
I'd paint it jet black with chrome feet, don't try to match the tiles.
Always a good entertaining vlog. Love you guys.
Leave the outside of the tub white, and feet either silver or gold. Definitely not green!! Green tiles, green tub – too much green!!! Light and airy better!!! My hubby watching with me tonight and agrees with me – you both are hard working! Loving your humour!!!😉😉
Great job so far on the bathrooms. Go bold and paint the tub GOLD, sides and feet. Whewhoo!
Wow you guys are making wonderful progress great job by you both that dust is really terrible !! Its also very bad to breath in to your lungs so be careful!!! Great job so far thanks for sharing your work and life love your channel. 👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️🇨🇦🥂🥂
Bath feet chrome and gold leave paint the base of the tub to wow match the mirrors tub left white inside will be really wow don’t like the green as the tile will be enough of the green. That is only my opinion its your choice as its your house my friends. Good luck no matter what you choose!! Big hugs love your channel. ❤❤
I vote for cypress II, but who am I to give advice to the woman who wallpapered the powder room with old magazine adverts and elevated bedpans to a decorative art. I like your artistic flair. Whatever you decide will be perfect.
Definitely cypress 2 on the outside of the tub with chrome feet so that it’s cohesive with the rest of the bathroom.
Paint bath black matt & feet chrome….not white….boring
I keep getting unsubscribed
Leave bath sides white, but do feet chrome
Leave it white please, anything you do to that lovely original bath May cheapen😮 it, however I will allow you to do the feet in chrome 😅
Just love your village very special
Just pondering your bath colour 😁 As the room has no natural light and you're going for darkish green tile, if that is going to be around the bath, you may want to leave the bath white, to stand out against the darker background and make more of a statement. Alternatively, if painting that area white or cream I'd paint the bath to contrast against it, but I assume it's the tiles.
Definitely chrome feet with green on the outside of the tub. X
Keep it white and just do the feet chrome, please.
Bath green ,lega chrome x
I’d say no to gold leaf on the bath Claire, It’s quite fragile and could be easily damaged in that location.
Spray the bath the same colour as the basin stand.
Leave the bath as is. The white will pop against the green
Hi re the bath, yes paint the bath ,two options ,dark green white/chrome feet, or light green white/chrome feet, great work team😊 ….. heaps of examples on Google
Bath: Think the green or white will look good. Dont Gold gild it – you can buy silver gilt which would be a better route to go down if you want to gild. Feet need to be silver gilt whatever colour you go for. Is it gild/t? Hope you have kept hold of the sewing machine as I have seen people adapt the base for many purposes, but now they are ending up on marketplace and the sewing machine part has long gone. Great work this week 🙂
I would do the bath in a lighter green, otherwise it's going to disappear against the tiles. Too samey-samey. Definitely chrome/silver feet though.
You're both doing a brilliant job!
Hi Claire, hi Nick. You're both doing wonders to your home, it truly is beautiful what you have achieved. Love that bath but I feel it should be green with gold feet, but I'm sure whatever you decide it will look fantastic. Love you guys ❤ xx
Hi Clare and Nic, at first for the bath I thought the cypress II and chrome feet but now I’m thinking classic white with chrome feet. Any of the combinations you suggested would be fantastic I’m sure. Hope walking the dogs and Nic 😅 was relaxing 😊
🦘🦘🦘Hi Clare. The bath – feet silver / chrome. The surround 60’s florals that will be a statement for sure. Be brave Clare do you with the colours🦘🦘🦘
HI it's all looking great the progress each week is amazing, I think the bath should stay white against the dark tiles as it could be lost against them pick out the feet in either chrome or gold see what you think once everything else is in place it's all coming together so well
I love the sewing stand for the basen idea, it'll be gorgeous.❤
I would do bath all gold leafs it would lovely with tiles ..
The Columban jungle comment was hilarious Claire 😂🤣😂🤣 So funny XX 💕
copper leaf
My two
Cents worth – I say paint the exterior of the tub the green that matches the tile and paint the feet gold. Can’t wait to see what you decide to do. No matter which way you go it is going to be outstanding! xx Pamela
Maybe live with the bath white with chome feet for a while and see how you feel. If you think you should have painted it, then go for Duck Green & chrome feet would be how I'd go with it.
What about silver leaf on the bath, to match the chrome
duck green chrome feet
Sniffin caulks, n spray paints again ? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Love ya both ❣️
I would take a tile to the paint shop & have them mix the paint to match the tile, then paint the feet nickel or take the feet to have them done in chrome (a car body shop may do it). love your use of the vintage & just love the banter between you two, great vlogs. It will turn out lovey which ever route you go,
If the enamel is undamaged, do not paint it! That lovely bright white will look wonderful and clean with your green tile and chrome fixtures. What I say is: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!
Paint bath sides and feed in darker green similar shade to tiles. Thanks for the laugh. Pablo.😂
PAINT ONLY THE FEET OF THE BATHTUB AND PAINT THEM "SILVER"- TA DAAAAA….it will go with the sewing machine base – great huh?
duck green – green at all ????? No please – leave it WHITE
No on the gold leaf. The gold mirrors can be an accent in themselves. Definitely paint the feet on the tub silver. The side of the tub, make it the last thing after it is in the bathroom. Then look at everything and decide on the side of the tub, paint green or not. But make the decision when all it together.
JP Chenet love it, I have got the wonky glasses, not sure if they still make them. I would say keep the bath white and chrome feet and accessorise with green palms and ferns
Go look at chateau love and see how Vivienne painted her tub .
Question: have you applied for your license to do guest quarters ? I read France is limiting permits for Airbnb and such.
If you want to make a statement be brave and go wild. Pimp the bath. Gold leaf the outside and the feet. Could look fabulous with your gold mirrors. Whatever you decide will look great with those lovely tiles.
Dear Clare,
When using the sander, I noticed that you were often using the heel or “tip” only. Although this method might achieve temporary satisfaction, may I recommend using the entire length and width of the tool for a much happier ending!
So happy to see Nick put his “socket” into an appropriately sized hole and when it comes to spraying, I too recommend starting on top and finishing on the bottom.
Hugs and kisses from Australia.
