00:00 Introduction
00:55 The Latest Protests
03:01 Why Farmers Are Angry
07:02 What Happens Next?
08:16 Nebula

This video was brought to you by nebula over the past few weeks European Farmers have really stolen the spotlight and that’s because a wave of farmers protests have swept across the Netherlands Germany France Belgium Poland and Hungary forcing the EU to announce last week that it would scrap a

Regulation from its 2040 agricultural emissions Target and itch a plan to cut its pesticide use in half apparently inspired by their peers success in the past few days process of spread to Spain Italy Greece and Portugal too so in this video we’ll take a look at the latest

Protests the emerging Urban rural divide in European politics and what might happen Next before we start if you haven’t already please consider subscribing and ringing the bell to stay in the loop and be notified when we release new videos let’s start by taking a look at the news from Spain Italy and Greece last week in Spain the situation escalated when three Farmers associations joined protests

Blocking roads in eight autonomous communities in just the first 3 days the Spanish police filed administrative sanctions for over 5,000 people including at least 799 violations of Spain’s controversial citizen security law also known as the gag law and arrested at least 19 people regardless 2,000 tractors brought Barcelona to a

Standstill while in the city of CAD real Farmers poured 25,000 L of French wine into the street in front of the local water authority to protest against water restrictions meanwhile in Italy 1600 tractors assembled on the outskirts of Rome last Friday preparing to arrive in the capital by Monday farmers in Milan

Even brought a cow to a march with them through the streets and Italian Prime Minister Georgia Maloney has already u-turned on an income tax exemption for Farmers that was due to to expire this year meanwhile in Greece farmers are continuing to set up roadblocks in Macedonia and thessy where the cities of

Lissa and kadida have seen protesters dump hay bales and milk on the streets while the main Athens thiki Highway was blocked ahead of a meeting between Greek farmers and the prime minister in Athens on Tuesday and last weekend representatives from the Central and West Macedonia regions reportedly met to consider blockading Greece’s borders

With Albania Bulgaria and North Macedonia now perhaps inspired by the political success of the farmer citizen movement in the Netherlands many rightwing politicians have expressed their support for these Farmers Maloney has repeatedly stressed that her government has already diverted 3 billion euros from The eu’s post-pandemic Recovery Fund to the

Agricultural sector and the controversial leader of Spain’s Vox party has called Farmers victims of the policies of Sanchez macron the European commission and also the the European people’s party so what’s motivating these Farmers protests in southern Europe well as we see it there are at least four reasons the eu’s climate

Policies cost of living concerns competition from foreign imports and the emerging Urban rural divide firstly the eu’s new climate policies now the EU reformed its common agricultural policy as part of the European green deal in July 2023 introducing stricter regulations to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions by pushing Farmers towards

More sustainable but costlier practices for context while farming makes up just 1.4% of the eu’s GDP and 4.2% of employment it accounts for over 14% of its greenhouse gas emissions in Spain for instance farmers are protesting plans to reduce the amount of water used from the tarus river to irrigate

Farmland in the Southeast which Mercy’s Regional leader said could threaten 25,000 jobs other Farmers have also complained that these new regulations are unduly bureaucratic creating an unreasonable amount of paperwork now onto our second reason the cost of living concerns High Energy prices after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine hit Europe’s Farmers particularly hard given

The large amount of energy required for agricultural processes and natural gas’s role in the production of fertilizers while agricultural input costs have come down since farmers in southern Europe have been hit with a series of extreme weather events which have been ironically and depressing ly made more likely by climate change Spanish Farmers

For instance are currently struggling with a record-breaking drought with some water reservoirs at less than 15% capacity and early this month Catalia described itself as in a state of emergency this has made irrigation which accounts for about 14% of water use within the oecd countries more difficult and more costly similarly increase last

Year wildfires wiped out about 20% of annual Farm revenue and in northeastern Italy which is home to Europe’s most agriculturally productive areas it’s at risk of becoming an arid Zone due to the increasingly frequent droughts and extreme high temperatures in fact data from kaisha Bank suggests that climate

Change is already leading to lower yields and weaker sector growth in southern Europe to make matters worse EU analysis suggests that the mediterranean’s agricultural sector will become more adversely affected by climate change than other parts of Europe in the future onto our third reason competition for foreign imports in

Eastern Europe Farmers have been protesting over the impact of cheap Ukrainian Imports and Now farmers in Spain are taking issue with cheap imports from Morocco too tomatoes have become the latest Target in a long-standing dispute between the two countries with one Spanish newspaper even asking does the European Union want

To depend on Muhammad v 6 when making its salads cheap Moroccan produce has caused the price of tomatoes to drop 40% in Spain over the last last year and some Spanish Farmers have recently dumped boxes of Moroccan cherry tomatoes out of the back of a truck in Fury onto

Our fourth and final reason the emerging Urban rural divide essentially these protests are partly a symptom of a general feeling in Europe’s rural communities that they’re being in some sense ignored by their governments which in turn is creating a new Urban rural divide in European politics to be fair

Here there is a growing economic disparity in EU countries between the rural and urban areas between 2012 and 2021 the urban rural Gap in incomes increased by almost 20% and employment rates have been consistently higher in urban areas polling suggests that people in rural areas also feel more neglected

By their National governments and are less likely to trust the EU with The Gap widening significantly since just 2020 this divide is also reflected in voting patterns with rural voters more likely to vote for euroskeptic socially conservative and migration skeptic parties so with that all considered what happens next well the farmers have

Already won some pretty significant concessions from both the EU and their National governments including perhaps most notably the effective suspension of the long- awaited EU Merkur trade deal unfortunately for the EU and European governments this has apparently only encouraged other farmers and protest now looks at to continue through at least

Late February going forward this is going to make both the EU and National government’s far more wary of introducing not just any legislation that affects Farmers but also any climate legislation with politically uncomfortable distribution effects in other words it’s probably going to make European policy makers far more cautious

About the green transition and what this might sound like unequivocally bad news for anyone who thinks that Europe should be doing more towards net zero in a sense though this is a conversation that Europe needs to have the politics of the green transition have been relatively uncontentious so far because a we did

The easy stuff first and B setting targets and deadlines for future governments is a lot easier than actually meeting them now these deadlines are approaching and Net Zero becomes more expensive Europe has to decide both how fast it wants to make the green transition and who should pay

For it as a dodr viewer I can pretty confidently say that you’re curious about the world around you Keen to know what’s really going on rather than just the General Media narrative and one country where this is particularly interesting is China where a lot of media coverage can be muddled or

Misleading if you want to dive deeper though I’d recommend poly matters incredible series China actually which explores the truth behind the Chinese news examining the truth about China’s one child policy why China has no allies how Chinese censorship really works and what exactly China’s nuclear policy

  1. not many people talk about it but the largest protest in history was started by farmers from Punjab, India in 2020 that spread into other parts of india and hundreds of thousands of us sat around national capital for 13 months until december 2021 when govt backed down and made some promises. 700 plus farmers lost lives, we are again protesting as i write this comment and more than 10,000 tear gas shells have been fired on us since last week and government has blocked highways with barricades and poured concrete inside them, they have even put large metal nails on the highways. farmers across globe need to join hands against injustice and atrocities.

  2. Poland is also experiencing protests, and I believe we all should join in. I don't care about what might happen in 400 years; currently, we are being exploited by wealthy individuals and their false agendas. To hell with the green industry! Europe needs to overturn all discriminatory laws or face rebellion.

  3. So farmers are upset about the fact that the climate crisis they are contributing to is affecting their farms? And the fact that their governments are trying to offset such effects by reducing water consumption for irrigation, and limit pesticide use? Then they're mad that the climate crisis is worsening because of these unsustainable practices the government is trying to crackdown on? I don't know what it's like to be a farmer and I don't know the hardships but they're just worsening some of their problems by continuing to use unsustainable resource usage that the government is trying to fix. They aren't thinking of the future. They're thinking of the now. A problem that has gotten us to this current climatic crisis

  4. "1.4% of GDP, but 14% of Co2/Methane" OBVIOSLY FAKE STATS! There's ways to investigate these numbers. There's no excuse for just blindly following the bidding of Davos like this if you're claiming to be an "independent" media outlet

  5. In Brazil, environmental regulations are inferior to ours, said a guy on a farm without a single foot of native forest who lives in a country that doesn't even have 5% of the territory with preserved native vegetation and who uses gas and coal as energy sources for their lockdown.

  6. This is the true story
    Given by the angels
Long ago in a far away land
    A little boy was born
Into a family that was totalitarian
His father went to work every day
For the most darkest man in our history
But this little boy grew up
    Believing in his daddy
And his daddy pushed and pushed to rule the world
And this boy pushed and pushed
And built up pride for his big daddy
But big daddy one day failed his conquest
    Of destruction
And this little boy got twisted
    And went crazy with anger
Because he thought we and my family should have won
So he aucked his thumb like a. Any for years
    Wa wa wa wa wahhhhhhhh
    Pooor baby
But daddy was taken by Satan
For the atrocities and the anger and the control. The way of the sith
But the little boy believed his daddy was right even though he was just destroying things
    Committed huge crimes to god
So the little boy grew up and became
What you would call a man
    And said to his heart
I promise you daddy to fu fill your destiny and conquer the world
    The legacy of our family
    Meanwhile not noticing
That it is the destruction of humanity
He then took his thumb out of his mouth and guess where he stuck it
    You know
But his plan did not go to his desire
As he began to destroy and take control
And soon sickness begins to grow from all the darkness and from the inside out death is coming to him
He already knows it’s begun and the angels have decided to give him the slow death for what he has done to the humans
For the greed for the immaturity
For the anger and the hate most of all for all the destruction his family has brought
He will try to cover this up
He has hire a group of people that tell him what to say and he calls in interviews on tv to make himself look good and his team helps him
THE ANGELS TOLD ME ALLJ THose THAT HELP HIM WILL LIVE IN THE DESERT NEXT LIFE
AND IF he WAS A SMART MAN HE WOULD RUN and GIVE UP
BECAUSE IF YOU DONT BELEVE in god
WELL THEN YOU JUST A MONKEY AND WILL ALWAYS BE A MONKEY
Shame on everyone that follows him
But you still have the chance to make it right and don’t delay show GOD that you mean it take control ❤❤

  7. In Czech Republic hundreds of farmers with their tractors are demonstrating in Prague today also.

  8. So the EU tells EU farmer to increase their cost to protect the environment but then import products from countries that have no regulations and can produce cheaper…

  9. When you said 25,000 litres of French Wine, I seriously thought you meant cow piss. It is farmers after all 😂

  10. The only way forward is to keep farmers on life support. Also considering the jobs, gdp, etc they a very negligeble part of the population already and we should make farming more attractive.

  11. Farmers protest in India
In 2020 to 2021 it last 378 days
Government promise to give fix price but later government back off from their word and now farmers on street again and government shooting and using smoking bombs and blocks road for farmers

  12. this YT has "itching ears" when it comes to climate change, they automatically assume that it's due to human activity when it's always been due to SOLAR activity. climates have always been subject to change, it's the natural and historic way of things. these green climate initiatives are hurting the farmers and acting like an unnecessary tax on the citizens of these european countries.

  13. What no mention of the French farmers. And you have the nerve to end with China media bias. We all have a bias

  14. I mean I get them. The EU is saying to it's farmers to farm in greener ways but that makes farming more expensive. At the same time the EU doesn't limit import of food from countries where it's farmed in less environmentally friendly way, so all they are doing is killing off EU farmers since supermarkets are just going to import cheaper food. This doesn't even achieve climate targets since all you are doing is moving pollution to some 2nd or 3rd world country.

If they really want to make farming environmentally friendly they need to put limits on imports as well. If imported food wasn't farmed according to the same policies we expect EU farmers to farm then it can't be imported. Plus extra carbon tax for it being shipped half way across the world. Of course that will lead to increased food prices which is going to make the city folk unhappy and they will probably blame the "greedy" farmers. And of course no one is going to point their finger at supermarkets requiring everything be wrapped in plastic so they can force you to buy more than you need.

TLDR: The entire thing is what happens when you just make demands from the local markets and don't apply them to imports from the global ones.

  15. The problem is incompetence in policy-making. Maybe Russians will lend Mikhail Mishustin to replace UvdL if asked politely.
