Winds in the Winery features wind instruments (OK…with a piano snuck in) that “mix” together to form a full and beautiful symphonic sound. The repertoire for this concert spans three musical eras, first reaching back to the classical period with a Mozart octet, the great Serenade in c minor, for oboes, clarinets, bassoons and French horns. Fast forward a hundred years for another version of the octet (plus flute) — the lush, late romantic Petite Symphonie by Charles Gounod. Completing the set is Poulenc’s Sextet for Piano and Winds, a 1932 portrait of Paris energy and rhythmic play with subtle jazz undertones. Grab a glass of wine and tune in! You are sure to be energized!
