Oh boy. This one is really interesting.
It’s young and it’s Bordeaux, so this shouldn’t be as good as it is. It’s well balanced, big & bold and what you’d come to expect from Boredeax. But it’s restrained, plush and delicate at the same time.
My initial opinion is that this is Graves at play. Stylistically a lot more refined than other regions of the Medoc.
Nose: Vibrant from the beginning. Fresh plums & cassis. Tobacco and a ripping mineral character. Reminded me of the Olive Tapenade vibes you’d get from a solid Chianti but herbs were behind the salinity in this. There’s a definite green character to it also.
Air turns it into banging Bordeaux. The fruit pulls back & integrates. It’s smokier & somewhat dustier. Graphite is apparent & it’s fresh, ripe plums. Super
Savoury.
Palate: Confirms the nose in every way. It’s delish and definitely more on the savoury side after a few hours in the decanter. I got a distinct waft of Violet at some stage.
Medium+ body, tannin & acid. The tannin really showed with air as opposed to rounding out. Noticeably spicy finish – Like chewing on a clove lozenge.
Definite buy again and a great Bordeaux to drink young.
Cheers 🍷
