The Collective Z winery (now Marie Adler) has very little vineyard acreage, but they do an incredible amount with it!
This Sylvaner comes from small plots featuring really old vines. If you ever find yourself in the area (Leistadt near Bad Dürkheim), be sure to stop by – it’s a wonderfully wild, unique spot.
The grapes were hand-harvested and allowed to ferment spontaneously in old French oak barrels. Short skin contact, extended aging on the lees. The wine itself offers a clean nose of stone fruit and a touch of yeast. On the palate, it turns herbal and fresh, with a creamy texture. Naturally, the soil imparts a chalky character. It is now six years old, so the edges have already softened and rounded out nicely.
There’s a celebration at the winery tomorrow, complete with Merguez sausages and a tasting. Let's meet there.
