I love herringbone BUT, in this instance I say straight. I believe that a herringbone floor should be laid with with the floor arrowing toward the back of the house, centered on the entry door pulling you into the house. In this instance, your stairs are blocking that sight line to the back and to me, that makes the herringbone awkward. Pretty flooring
