If she made it, it would have been a 10. This guy isn't capable of cooking a 10/10 dish, even he knows he can improve. I'm not throwing shade at him either, the amount of people that would undeservingly give themselves a 10/10 is way too high. This guy has some humility which is a good thing.
So, basically what Julia did was take a cocque au vin recipe and switched the chicken for the beef, and voilà, Boeuf Bourguignon. Must be delicious, I made coq au vin at least 7 times by now, I'm going to give this a try.
Me and the Mrs typically make this fantastic dish every few weeks. Warm, filling, full of flavour and a taste of better days gone by. She had no real kitchen experience before getting with me and it has changed her outlook on spending time in the kitchen. Make it! You won't regret it… except when it's all gone.
One can hardly ever go wrong (without intentionally trying to go wrong) when combining a good meat with some good potatoes—which I personally believe to be an unbeatable combo (potatoes are incredibly simple to grow, and meat can be found on land, in the sea and in the air—easy peasy and typically delicious).
I do a version in my crock pot; I don't use the bacon as it adds a lot of grease and I just use cut onion not pearl; everything else is the same. Sometimes I add cut potatoes, sometimes I do mashed. It's so good! Not time consuming in the crock pot. I do brown the beef, add that and all drippings into the crock pot. Ready by the time you get home!
I’ve got vintage copies of both of the mastering the art of French cooking books, not first editions mind you but still early enough editions that even as used books they have some value.
I loved Julia Child when I was a child and I'm not sure how I started watching her either. I remember watching her cooking videos since I was like 3 years old. She was an amazing chef and man could she slice onions like a ninja. LoL
– What gets a 10/10 !? I've heard of this woman before. Deff gonna try this, but your mashed looks like box mash, not homemade. Maybe that is why it isn't perfect. Even microwaveable mash is better then anything in a box.
Looks lovely Julia Childs so glad her book in 50s 60s became such a success
This dish presentes so well, my past self of the 90s would have consumed it and enjoyed it but now due to reasons I do not eat beef Your presentation is excellent

I wonder if he ever rated had a 10 out of 10 recipe
What's the white stuff? Looks a bit like fufu but I'm sure it isn't if this is French.
So where is the actual recipe? You tell us about it but I don’t see it.
As a randomly passing by French, I'm flattered to see one of my country's best dishes lol. Thank you for giving it a try 😀 I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Ok but what was that white stuff he poured it over on the plate? Kinda looks like cheese, but that can't be it is it?
Man that looks pretty awesome. I need one of those pans you used though.

I hate French and French style recipes, even the ones from Julia Child look like things my broke ass can't afford to cook.
BBQ is better

Sooo… how are we meant to make this if you didn’t leave a recipe?

All ingredients shown here, the pots to cook in & the oven/range costed a total of $15.35 back then lol (kidding)

This recipe is a true gem. I always thought, oh, it's just basically beef stew. Nope. It's whole new world.
