Pahlmeyer, Jayson, Napa Valley, Chardonnay, 2022, 14.3% abv.
Nose: upon pop it is quite herbal, with air time the milk and cheese-like aromas show up, with more air time it becomes sweet caramel with hints of vanilla.
Palate: medium body, entry is diluted cheese,
mid palate amplifies showing some salted milk, simple syrup, light pepper spice, back palate has weakly sweet dessert-like flavors but not pure vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, or sugar glaze; some bitter wood which I will attribute to tannins, alcohol. Surprisingly, as the glass warmed, the vanillin elements became more prominent, and the sweetness was amplified with food. Still not a bomb of any sort.
Finish: long, dry, like tannic sprite, simple syrup, sweet wood, some alcohol.
Vernacular: nose is mostly secondary with light primary. Medium body, low acidity, medium secondary, angular tannins, salt, alcohol is present. Long finish, dry, reflective of palate.
I guess I am not sensitive to vanilla anymore. Online tasting notes seem to suggest these Jaysons are strong in the vanilla. Got this for USD$45 in Los Angeles, USA.
Grade: C+
