This week at the French château, there were transformations in every direction.

I’m finally revealing the repainted dining room, the tilers have started work on the cottage main floor (including the electric underfloor heating), and grass seed has been planted in the terrace garden after months of upheaval.

I also share an update about my Writing Your Unexpected Life retreat this May — a space has opened due to a cancellation, and there is still time to join us for five intimate days at the château with chef-prepared meals, meaningful conversation, and time to reflect, write, and reconnect.
Life at an old French château is never just one project at a time, and this week felt like a real turning point.

  1. You did a wonderful job with the dining room and the pale green color is gorgeous. It's a huge improvement, the room looks even bigger, you could get a larger chandelier and also upscale both white lamps, go taller, the room can take it. The garden is looking lovely, with the grass grown it will be perfect for the wedding.

  2. The Dining room looks stunning very soft colours from what they were great choice . A stunning gold Mirror would look great maybe ? Lulu such a cutie .

  3. Such a soothing, restful color you've chosen for that room; It looks just so lovely! The garden is coming along too; when the lawn comes in, that swath of rich green behind the white rock/aggregate surface you chose will be lovely. I love the dappled sunlight pattern on the ground surface, coming through the trees.

  4. Oh yeah 🎉 it's great! Now time to let the house breathe with some new upholstery on the chairs!

  5. The green so pretty Abby fresh bright be great for the wedding and go with the gardens ! Now the rock face that fell has worked better then you thought ! It's looking beautiful! You will have to water everyday for a few days to keep the seed viable till it sprouts up ordered will not survive if drys out ! But the yard has been totally transformed to a resort style garden area, beautiful restful area on the property! Now your vision of your property is coming to life ! Well done girl Now cottage making good progress radiant floor heating perfect ! Hope windows come soon ! ❤

  6. The new color in your dinning room is beautiful!
Have you thought of putting up a larger chandelier in tbe dinning room.
The one you have looks way too small for the size of the room.

  7. It looks lovely Abby, I really like the light green, it makes the room brighter and larger looking. That was so much work, I couldn't see myself doing all of this, your an amazing person.

  8. Hallelujah!! All the painting is done! How many hours spent room after room…what a relief!! The dining looks so good love the green and white I’m an earth sign so I am partial especially to shades of green! Fresh paint always makes a home look and smell refreshed! The grass is also going to really make the area look so beautiful! Hope you had a wonderful retreat! So many things to look forward to in the coming months may you find some time to sit back and enjoy all of the hard work! Hope you have a wonderful week ahead! Au Revoir 💜

  9. I'm so glad you went with the green – it's so fresh and pretty and cheerful. I've never gotten on board with the current craze for pink for walls, although I love the color.. I think it's one of those colors that will have a limited life span, and quickly become very dated. And isn't it nice to have checked off another job that won't have to done again for a LONG time? Well done, Abby!

  10. ABBY! Make sure to taken on volenteers for wedding cleanup! It always the part when people promise to help but quit … or hire a cleanup crew…

  11. ABBY Now you need artwork that pickups the colours in the furniture maybe a huge big tapestry hang it on a copper curtain rod… filling up those huge two walls sides …
