Nothing humbles a wine lover like a blind tasting! 🙈🍷
After some epic warm-ups (Charles Dufour Champagne & a Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet) paired with crispy luncheon meat fries 🍟🥩, the blinders went on.
Here are the two bottles that completely threw us off:
🍷 Trick #1: The “Syrah”
Guess: Syrah
Reality: Pintia 2007 (100% Tempranillo from Toro, Spain)
Why it tricked us: Toro’s extreme heat creates a darker, bolder Tempranillo than classic Rioja. With 15+ years of age, its meaty, peppery notes had us completely fooled!
🍷 Trick #2: The “Pinot Noir”
Guess: Pinot Noir
Reality: HdV Belle Cousine 2009 (Napa Valley Merlot & Cab Sauv)
Why it tricked us: The magic of aged wine! The heavy Napa tannins had melted into pure silk, leaving delicate, earthy notes and a lighter body that perfectly mimicked an elegant Pinot.
Tasting blind is the best way to keep learning (and laughing at your own palate). 🤓😅
