is there any truth to the rumor that France has an unadvertised "lump sum" taxation regime available to these Hollywood stars and other wealthy people? Similar to certain Swiss canton's taxation. Purportedly Karl Lagerfeld made use of this, and more recently the guy who started Snapchat.
I feel like the US gets dumped on by these celebrities, but they do not want to pay the taxes that the citizens of France have to pay, while maintaining huge estates in France at no benefit to the citizens.
In NYC there was a similar feeling that people should leave celebrities alone. As far as why American celebrities spend time in France is that many of them aren't all that well known in France so they can have far more privacy.

Better film environment and privacy makes sense, but having investment properties all over the world is just a rich person thing. Even the moderately salaried get into the property game if they can afford it.

This probably has something to do with the Epstein list in the likelihood of Democrats seizing the House and Senate in the U.S. in November. There will be investigations, and even if these celebrities weren't directly involved, they probably know someone who was.

Ultimately EU cinema will have to attract the producers, not just the actors… and they're all fleeing to Canada (those not tied to Epstein at least).

Here in Ontario, Canada we have an expensive cottage country region called Muskoka. I remember years ago Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn bought some property there. In fact many Hollywood celebrities have summer cottages there. Goldie Hawn complained that tourist boats were taking photos of them. She complained about "rude Canadians". In actuality the tourist boats were Americans and the American media kept putting these cottages in the news. 🤦🏻♀The locals don't bother celebrities and don't care about them, just like in France.
They are fleeing America because brutal lying psychopaths have taken over here.
It's not just celebrities. Lots of Americans, including me, left the USA for France.

I thought the Clooneys already lived on Lake Como or Garda or something- one of the Italain lakes, anyway. But they've probably got a million houses everywhere.
1. They can afford to.
2. The US has been having a real identity crisis and many no longer feel at home in their native country.
3. Life is short, why stay somewhere that makes you unhappy.
I traveled to France for first time last Summer and I would much much much rather live there than the USA.

Really neat perspective I wasn't aware about. You must have seen the remade French production of Count of Monte Cristo (Le Comte de Monte-Cristo) too which doesn't surprise me when you say France is having a bit of a cinema renaissance which I think is great. I discovered a French actor from seeing that film and a few others who I am super impressed by an that's Laurent Lafitte. He's incredibly talented check him out if you haven't seen any of his films! Saw Private Life also, very enjoyable film.

Thank you, Lucile, for hitting the nail on the head. None of these holier-than-thou celebrities you highlighted are the slightest bit interested in living amongst the hoi polloi. They hie to safer realms where they don't have to worry about their safety or that of their children, while patting themselves on the back for their liberalism and for voting for politicians who keep the doors of justice perpetually revolving so that the violent predators who destroy America's average neighborhoods don't trouble them off in lovely Europe. The French need not think for a moment that these wealthy parasites care any more for them than they do for the Americans they left behind. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Monaco doesn't have place left for the seekers of tax paradise. France should fill in.

Thanks for another informative and perceptive video. It seems hypocritical of the richest celebrities to 'drop down' into France for its benefits, but not be willing to make the commitment to permanent status and pay their share of taxes. Of course, they can get away with it because of their celebrity status which makes them ultimately less interesting as human beings. I went to film school and taught film studies, screenwriting etc. and my favorite movies have always been non-Hollywood and foreign films (except, of course for the Golden Age of Hollywood when the stories were more meaningful, like Casablanca, Gentleman's Agreement, The Grapes of Wrath, etc.) I really look forward to your videos which demonstrate your research, honesty and sincerity.
What about not want to live in the country that the US has become lately? That must be another reason to move to Europe.
