🤗 We Ate Everything on America’s Longest Train Journey Including the Famous Amtrak Steak. We spent 72 hours crossing America by train and decided to eat absolutely everything on board. From breakfast in the dining car to the famous Amtrak steak dinner, this is what food is really like on one of the longest train journeys in the United States. 🇺🇸🥩
Our journey took us from New York City to Los Angeles, travelling across multiple states on a long-distance Amtrak train. Along the way we tried everything the dining car had to offer — omelets, burgers, French toast, coconut shrimp, desserts, and of course the legendary Amtrak steak that passengers talk about. We have been told to try the Amtrak steak dinner. So we chose one of the Longest, Oldest and biggest train journeys for a classic steakhouse experience in America — Brits try Eating Everything on a 72 Hour Train Across America

We Tried an American Steakhouse for the worlds Best steak on the move. Dining on Amtrak is communal, which means passengers share tables and meet new people every meal. With 45 hours on board the Southwest Chief route, we had time to explore the full menu and experience what train travel food is really like. Unlike Prime Rib at Lawrys steakhouse — a well-known steakhouse brands in the United States — we try Amtrak food and their impressive meat to see if their steakhouse meal is better than prime rib. and can it beat peter lugers Steakhouse, Ruth’s Chris Steak house or Fogo De Chao. We Ate Everything on a 72 Hour Train Across America
Unlike traditional American institutions such as Peter Luger Steak House, where one perfectly cooked dry-aged porterhouse is the centerpiece or Fogo de Chão offers continuous tableside service of fire-roasted meats. Lawry’s ‘The Prime Rib’ has spent 90 years perfecting the best meat and service, including tableside service for many other meats like, ribeye to filet, lamb, and filet steak.
Amtrak southwest chief route is a 45 hour train ride across America from Chicago to Los Angeles.

New Mexico chili
I wanna go on this journey one day I’ve never been to the west coast! ❤🎉 PA ALL THE WAY! I’ve heard the meals on the good trains are very nice actually nothing better than a steak while traveling by land! Looks so good
You guys like America 🇺🇸
😄
That’s good you guys enjoy yourself in America 🇺🇸
Wish you had provided train cost. The hardest food delivery would most likely be on cruise ships. Remember coming into Freeport, Bahamas when the ship hit a substantial wave and a quarter of the dining room jumped up and ran out. Even the staff were struggling.
How long did it take for you to adjust to solid ground.
Los Angeles is famous for See's candy.
you guys are killing me….eating all the candy treats that we used to buy in cinema when they were so old and stale, then we'd wait for the lights to dim and start hurling them like rocks at people's heads…they were not edible and total waste of money aside the mischief…
you two are so cute together, gives me hope, thanks
I used to travel coast to coast on Amtrak often when I was in college. The only problem being it took ~three days. They actually prepare the food from scratch. I met the nicest people on those trips and made some friends. The train personnel were always very nice and took care of me because I was a young person traveling alone. It was fun but these days I'm much more impatient.
I loved Junior Mints, Charleston Chews, and Mounds bars, which are approximately Almond Joy bars but with dark chocolate and no almonds. Please try some Girl Scout cookies somewhere along your journey. 💕
Disappointed! Watched you for so long and no mention of Nebraska!?!?
What an adventure! Not saying I am jealous though. Just watching the swaying made me motion sick. Food looked great though. Snacks from every state you go through??? That is something I don't think I would have thought to do.
Thanks for taking us on the trip.
They robbed you on that chocolate lol
The answer to Britain's Bounty bar is Mounds. Funnily enough, we do have Bounty here, but it's a brand of paper towels – kitchen roll. Which brings to mind all sorts of hilarious imagery when you compare anything chocolate & coconut. 😆
I couldn't help but notice you didn't get anything from Indiana. If I might make a suggestion, Abbot's Candy does decent work, specializing in different caramels. Andrew, you'll adore them. Granted, they're a bit premium, as you'd expect a boutique confectioner to be, but I've never had a bad experience from them. The sea salt caramels are especially nice, IMO.
And if you wanted something a bit more innovative, Lowery's Candies has a caramel-filled jumbo pretzel that I've been meaning to budget for. I'd definitely be interested in your take on it before I try it.
Since You Asked:
Arizona Gifts has all manner of sweets made from the prickly pear cactus, as well as lollipops with either a scorpion or a cricket in it and clearly visible.
If, like me, you're more a fan of small, independent candymakers, DD's Dessert Delights offers some treats infused with that Arizona heat – Cayenne Pecan Brittle and Jalapeno Peanut Brittle. Both of those would make for a fun challenge punishment. 😈
Similarly, Made In New Mexico has all manner of spiced candies, including the Diablo Dark Chocolate Bar, a 73% cacao chocolate spiced with the viciously hot habanero along with red chili. They also have pistachio brittle, biscochitos(also known as Mexican wedding cookies), Mayan spiced hot chocolate mix, lavender honey, along with a ton of savory selections, too.
Buffet's Candies out of Albuquerque offers more traditional candies, but they're an institution in the city, bring smiles to sweet tooths since 1956. The Pecañero is a pecan brittle that's more nuts than it is sugar, while the Dark Chocolate Bourbon Caramels offer a more grown-up indulgence. And they also offer a coconut patty in 3 different chocolates: milk, dark, or white.
Caveat: Both the Arizona and New Mexico recommendations are strictly from a web search. You'd have to tell me if they're any good.
Anyway, thanks again for another delightful excursion. God bless you and keep you. ♥
I'm scared to know what might happen to him if one day he decides he likes chocolate cake
Also if you wish you can eat your meal in your room if you want a more private time dinning.
Also I love your reaction on the quality level of the food just because of the train itself like it’s a super rare experience.
Getting used to the constant movement is called "sea legs" in the Navy.
Once you get your "sea legs" you can anticipate the impending movement of the vessel.
It looks like the galley served some pretty good chow.
Fair winds and following train tracks. Hooyah!
Many years ago I traveled from NYC to Mexico City on Amtrack. That was a huge mistake.
Taking a train across the country is on my bucket list. Had planned it for my 60th birthday but it didn't work out. Work denied my time off . Tried again for my 60 first; again denied(too close to inventory time). Maybe I'll just look through this years event days and pick a date from that.
Perhaps the time table did not work out – the Lakeshore Limited is direct from New York City to Chicago…
Good to hear you had fun and some decent meals. There are stories from guys who wrote about trains claiming that in the best days of train travel here in the US before Amtrak there were guys who took the Twentieth Century partway from New York just to have dinner. There was a barber on board and the term "red carpet" may have originated with the Twentieth Century with a red carpet that was rolled out for those boarding the train in New York.
When I was a young boy, Charleston Chews came in chocolate, strawberry, or vanilla flavors all dippednin chocolate. They were also huge.
Honestly, when it comes to chocolate, I'm going for Cadbury Caramello, Fruit & Nut, and Creme Eggs…beats the heck out of Hersheys.
Jr. Mints👍👍👍
I love that you guys did this. I think train travel is highly underrated.
Thin mints were one of my favorites to have at movie theaters as a child.
I have made flat iron steak in the Air fryer, it's delicious and only takes ten minutes for medium rare. 😋
I looked several times for the ticket price and cannot seem to find it😊
How can Russell Stovers make a turtle pun and the box not have chocolate turtles?
Made of pecans, caramel, and chocolate. They look like chocolate covered baby sea turtles.
Awesome video guys! I’ve never been on a train and this really opened my eyes! How expensive was this trip?
Cant remember what state but russel stover has a retail outlet in a few states.
