Hi all. My husband and I are finally putting a backsplash in our kitchen. We're wondering how far we should run the backsplash. The counters and cupboards don't line up evenly, so we don't know if we should line the backsplash up with the cupboards (#1 in both pictures) or the counters (#2 in both pictures).
Or maybe some third, tapered option.

My vote would be 2, I think this will look a lot cleaner, prevent from liquids and foods splattering on walls that are more difficult to wipe down, and if you ever wanted to add on a small cabinet or even just hooks on the sides of your cabinets it’ll be better having the backsplash stick out rather than being too short if additions or modifications to cabinets are made later
