Let’s talk about how Airbnb took over Paris and the dark side of Airbnb in Paris. We’ll investigate the war between the city of Paris and Airbnb that could very well be the death of Airbnb in Paris. I’m French and I’ve lived in Paris for around 10 years and I have a lot of thoughts on how short-term rentals kill cities and I’ve been an Airbnb host myself and I’ve also used Airbnb to travel. If you’re reading this let me know your thoughts!

I don’t leave comments on YouTube almost at all, but I have to do now. Actual life saving (and money saving) video and channel. Thank you for your hard work ! ✌🏻
so pretty much like Lisbon
Love your videos, but I could only stomach watching this about 2/3 of the way through. I’m never using these again. There’s a reason they are banned in NYC. All you need is one bad experience to say never again. Started out good, but the entire share culture enshittified itself.
Thanks for this video. Good info.
The same problem is popping up in Aix en provence, South of France in Provence! Thanks for this great video!
I typically stay long term (2-4 weeks) at a location for my vacation. I appreciate an apartment because I can invite friends over, have a place to cook, and a separate place to eat. Airbnbs typically are in real neighborhoods which I appreciate. I love hotels for short term but they don't allow someone to be comfortable after a week and will charge you to eat each meal at the hotel which I don't want. Sometimes I just want to eat my leftovers, or make and egg and toast for cheap. I have been considering hotels again – BUT ones with kitchens and living rooms. I can't do the one room situation for my kinds of trips. I just wish more hotels understood WHY people prefer Airbnbs and made more suites/apartments to rent. I'd gladly go back especially if they offered maid service, pools and lounge areas.
Bonjour Lucille –
Je regarde ce vidéo avec une amie et elle était curieuse quel est votre lipgloss?
J’adore vos vidéos – je suis une voisine de 17e. Bon week-end
Do you think the real problem could be price controls? Whenever you have market distortions, you create pressure for this sort of thing.
Cape Town is even worse! At 26800 listings, Cape Town has surpassed places like Washington D.C., Sydney, Toronto, Chicago and Hong Kong despite being much smaller than these markets. Barely any housing for locals. City feels absolutely soulless.
airbnb is a problem world wide. I wish people would stop using them
Im a hotel/motel girl, i see cool stuff on airbnb but i hear horror stories too often.
Bonsoir I never stay in bnb only hotels in the 9 th your not saving anything thank you Rick NYC
Was Sex and the City the setting in Paris? Ratatouille is an amazing culinary and Parisian movie. Merci et Joyeux Week-end
That's not the only thing destroying Paris but I won't go there !!
There is a lot to unpack when it comes to pros and cons of short-term rentals vs. hotels, etc. My one take away from years of experience is that hotels are not always perfect either. Especially as you move down the star scale.
Great video!
We've been to Paris several times with our family and as a couple from 1998-2017. We've stayed in only hotels and in apartments (in the city and suburbs) booked through a website we trusted. We rented so many apartments over the years from Pascal that he never charged me a deposit. Talk about trust! They were affordable and very nice. He's since gone back to just real estate with the advent of Airbnb, VRBO, etc. We've used AirbnB in other parts of Europe and the US. I can only think of one odd stay at an apartment built into the ground floor of a chateau in Nice. The bathroom was "interesting." Thank you for informing us about Airbnb in Paris. We would like to come back and will use your tips about our accomodations! Merci!
You absolutely nailed this one. Great video👊
AirBnB should just be banned entirely IMO unless the owner lives on the premises such as renting rooms. Hotels should be the main housing for tourists. And when I've traveled overseas, we stayed in hotels. You get great service, don't need to clean, and have someone on the front desk.
Airbnb has create housing inflation all around the world. It should be outlawed.
AirBNB also sucks in Paris. It is a disaster for locals and many advertise their apartments inaccurately. Thank God I have other options as I have to return there on a regular basis.
I live in a tourist town in the Canadian Rockies and it's similar here. Whether it is airbnb or 'short -term' (i.e. more than 30 days, less than 6 months) rental: these suites make the neighborhood unstable, and also take housing stock away from locals. The irony in a smaller town is that we need people to staff all of the hospitality industry venues, but now a lot of those workers either can't afford to live here, or just can't find housing at all, because the vacancy is low. I agree with your visitor advice. As the old gospel song goes: take your shoes off, you're on holy ground. Everyone's home is holy to them, and as a visitor it is wise to respect that. Personally, I now prefer suite or apartment hotels when I travel.
18 m2 near the Louvre for 680 euros per month ??? it’s very unfortunately so much more expensive than that ! For that you can expect to pay near 1000 euros! I have lived in Paris for 20 years and it’s not possible anymore for most people. Paris is becoming a city filled with non French people. Very sad.
I prefer a nice hotel. I like room service and laundry service and having a concierge.
Well wtf are the government doing? They can easily make airbnb illegal for any accommodation less than 30 days or something.
Bonjour! I’ve heard you mention this in your video ranking the arrondissements but I don’t quite understand what you mean when you say “over tourism.” What is it? Also what is the “wrong approach to tourism” that makes parts of the city so bad for locals? Thank you so much. I love your videos and learning more about Paris, and French culture as a whole, from someone other than Emily lol.
P.S. I can totally hear that your boyfriend is from Chicago in the way you say it, having probably heard it the most from him and being exposed to his accent. It’s a fun little tidbit I noticed in the arrondissements video (I think.)
P.P.S. Say “Hi.” to Bobby for me please!
Build more housing. If you are not building anything, you will not have enough apartments for long term rental and the situation will get worse.
I feel like AirBNB makes every city worse…
I think the state/city should not have a right to interfere into the housing market. Let people do whatever they like to do with their homes. The concept of an illegal Airbnb is a version of communism.
