Hi! I just bought my first appartment and I'm hesitant as to what to do with curtains. I would really like to have ceiling to floor ones, but there's an awkward box (a fake column?) above the windows that makes it impossible. If I hang them from the ceiling, there would be a wide space behind the curtains that would remain unused, and my place isn't big enough to discard square meters. Also, in the bedroom, hanging curtains on the ceiling would make them hang just at the end of the bed – so we would have to move them every time we wanted to walk to the other side of the bedroom.

The boxes / fake columns were built to hide the blinds. I know I should just get rid of them, but that is above my budget right now. Any ideas? Should I hang them below the awkward boxes or would that make the walls look very short? Should I give up on long pretty curtains and just go for short ones?

Any ideas are welcome. Thanks!

  1. I wouldn’t put curtains here. You don’t really need them and no matter where you put them, they’ll look weird.

I think you could hang them right up against the bottom of the box and they’d look fine. And you might be able to work with the box by doing something with paint?

And bonus on having those blinds though! I jest spent time at my Aunt and Uncle’s house and they have those. What’s nicest to make it dark in the room! But theirs are mounted outside the house and just have a crank handle that comes through the wall to operate them so they didn’t have that box on the inside.

Are you certain that “fake box” is fake? Often times it has duct work inside it and or pipes/electrical housing. I would be hesitant to hang anything until that was confirmed.
