Your favorite soda, Coca-Cola, has a shocking dark origin. 🥤💉
Before it became the world’s most popular soft drink, Coca-Cola was created as a medical cure for morphine addiction.
After being wounded in the American Civil War, pharmacist John Stith Pemberton became addicted to morphine. In the 1860s, he experimented in his backyard to create a pain-relief substitute using alcohol and coca leaves.
The result was a drink called “Pemberton’s French Wine Coca.”
Due to U.S. prohibition laws, the alcohol was removed. Over time, the formula evolved—eventually becoming the Coca-Cola we know today.
This 3D animated short reveals the hidden American history behind the most famous soda brand ever created.
