I’m Phil Gaimon. I was a pro cyclist for 10 years, but I never got to do the Tour de France. Now almost ten years retired, I’m going back to correct that. We’re headed to tackle the most iconic climbs in cycling, and I’m going to win the Tour because no matter how fast I go up, we’ll going to enjoy the food, the wine, and only suffering few a few minutes instead of 21 days.
Stage 1 is the Tourmalet in the Pyrenees region, former home of @TheColCollective, who’s doing the filming and acting as tour guide on this series. We explore the town and nature surrounding Luz-Saint-Sauveur, have a wonderful French meal, a natural hot springs, and show you the everything you need to know about the climb.

Wasn‘t Illi Gardner faster (not riding in a Grand Tour)? Anyway, great effort & congrats!!
So cool to see you in Luz! We live in Spain (formerly California). I've followed your channel forever, and we've been to Luz several times. One of my favorite towns anywhere. Gorgeous, and stuff to do even for people who don't ride (like my wife).
Mike and Phil = this is like cycling viewing mecca 🙏❤️😎
Ok this is great, but the audio is eerie. Please let in at least a little bit of background
Emily will take over this channel in the future and significantly increase the number of subscribers =)
Well done Phil!!
Thanks Emily for putting it all in perspective! Love the series – it's informative and inspiring.
Did anyone else notice the choppiness of the editing? Loved the general vibe but didn't feel as smooth as normal.
Looks amazing! Great effort, great video!! Looking forward to more!!!!
I've not seen your name on Strava for the climb up Sherman Pass in the Sierra Nevada's. It is right off 395 on your way to Lone Pine, Ca next spring. Assuming you hold the WTF again next year.
you couldn’t cut the corners either
Phil and Mike. Two of my favorites. Great fun. And a nice climb to boot.
Don't feel so bad about not knowing "crenellations" when matey struggled with "polygonal". Not entirely confident he understands what it means either…
he is lovely though, so i won't hold it against him.
Fantastic video. Really enjoyed this and immediately subscribed. Had the three essential ingredients: self-torture, humour, French landscape/culture.
Absolutely loved this episode , a[so Plant corner all great,
Great episode. 💪 Will ride Tourmalet in September this year. Looking forward to Ventoux ❤
Inspiring episode. Loved it.
Wowee wow wow!
Epic Phil! Can't wait for the next episode!
Emily's plant corner, amazing. Local recs, stellar. Rim break bike, vintage. KOM attempt, savage. Looking forward to the next one.
Merci! Such a fabulous trip! Love you both and hope you can keep adventuring like this for a long long time 🥂
awesome video!!
Chapeau Phil!
Wait. Why isn't anyone asking about the tubular tires at 110psi instead of tubeless at 24.3psi. I mean, that would be my choice if I still had the legs for that kind of thing. But what made Phil choose it? I'm old school and think indexed shifting is cheating but would anybody else choose to glue their tires onto rims on purpose?
Wonderful episode.
Excellent combo of travel vid + cycling. Keep this up!
Love your wheel and tire set up. Of course, there’s going to be a bunch of tech nerds to explain to you using complicated thinking why bigger tires with a bunch of sealant is better etc. But I’m loving the correct old school ways.
