From £5.99 to £13.99 what does France, or more specifically, Waitrose have to offer??

good afternoon now today I have got rather an unusual but pretty exciting Trio tasting and I’ve just been doing a trio tasting with the two uh bordo which you see there purchased some I purchased all three wies in waitrose this week and one of the bordeau was $7.99 one of them was $9.99 one of them is um Entre de Mo it is an actual shatow bottled wine and the other one looks as if it is it looks top quality everything about the label and the design of the bottle is to lead you to think that it’s a top shatow wine um but in fact it’s a fake because it’s just an agoan Cooperative wine called ESET pisin pisin suon so suon produces an enormous amount of wine and it has a cache which is somewhat erous as most of the wine produced in Sant milon is no better or worse than any other tap wine in France but the top top four Shadows give the aura are a very top quality um appalation whereas if you go for one of the other three or four cilon appellations they are tiny and you’re much more likely to get a top quality wine this is why I went for the peace SCH however the reality is it’s not a single um Vineyard and it’s a blend of Merlo cabon front which is what you would expect in the area but it doesn’t tell you how much so it’s just a bundled together wine for waitrose drinkers whereas the other one in fact is a top quality bargain I would just give you a quick tasting of these two so this is one that I’ve been wanting to try for a long time and I thought it was a Shad wine but when you look at it it’s just the spirit of peace not the wine itself and so what’s happening is I’ve been sold a pup I’ve got lovely very translucent red currant in here big delicious licorice very much Licorice and some um dark cherry on the nose and a little bit of black pepper promise it’s a beautiful wine it doesn’t have much weight it’s kind of what you would expect for the area but it doesn’t have any depth or intensity for it and it doesn’t have that earthiness you might associate it’s it’s not untypical of the area but it’s very much a lightweight would be very nice with roast slam on a Sunday I’m going to actually say it’s not a bad taper wine and it may well impress your friends but if you can avoid it I’d actually suggest avoid that wine whereas this wine is a shatow QP 2020 and that one was 2021 that was 13% this is 13 1 12% and this one tells us not only about the chatow but it’s very specific 60% Merlo 20 cabet s and 20 Cabernet Frank so that’s a splendid blend and it’s got much more sort of opaque big dark raspberry and black current looks doesn’t smell of anything particularly on the nost apart from perhaps some Meed fish paste already suddenly for 2 pounds less um I’ve got the earthiness I very much associate with Bordeaux I’ve got some interlaying intensity in there I’ve got a bit of definition and depth the extra carbon song which lends To the Left Bank um the potential to age for over 50 years that’s giving the wine a lot more intensity so I would suggest for $7.99 this Entre deur that’s right in the middle of the left and right bank that’s actually a quality wine and you’re going to be hard pushed in Britain to find another wine anywhere near as good as that for the price and frankly for twice Sur price whereas this one is a bit of a fake it till you make it it’s just the spirit rid of PE SK without actually being the reality of PE SK and um very nice label very misleading um deliberately done I mean bordo is full of this it’s you know it’s very very nice if you like cherry juice but avoid that one go for that one now let’s see what else there is so this one the other day I bought this for $5.99 but it’s a $6.99 now I used to buy this all the time when I had no money 12 years ago and it was $4.79 and as ever it’s still there on the bottom shelf of waitrose but it’s now in this shape bottle which is a little bit classy um and not a r shaped bottle it’s Celia dein Prestige Merlo gar she doesn’t try and pretend to be anything other than a negotia um Cooperative type of wine and it’s a south of France wine grows p in respecting the quality and Heritage um blend of Merlo and Kache but it’s actually bottled by a venon in the coat d own so you do have to be very careful with French wine you might not be getting what you think you’re getting by the shape of the bottle and the label learn to read it in very carefully 13 1 12% screw cat ready to go any time of the year let’s see how this one compares to the $799 and $9.99 on offer bordo after 12 years of drinking this wine I’m still impressed give it a good slush well I’ve chosen a pretty big dartington crystal glass to bring out all the nuances and flavor that this very interesting seemingly nothing South French wine has to offer in looks it’s very much in between these two I don’t know if it even gives me a vintage does it I don’t think it’s even a vintage wine that’s how cheap and cheerful it is it’s a non-vintage wine so is just a glug of whatever’s going it’s kind of made in the cheapest way possible but I think we’re going to find this surprisingly good fruit on the nose bit of a suggestion of Saddle lever and forest floor well I I honestly think if you like tiny bit of dams and tartness some big dark cherry black currant tiny bit of um chili chocolate pepper spice and you know under hints of Forest mushroom deer poo and um Forest b a little bit of tarmac on a hot day and some you know raspberries I would I would say you know if you you’re choosing a wine for barbecue or your friends just popping around for a red wine that is a go-to I would be surprised if you had a friend that didn’t like that after 12 years of drinking this wine I’m no less impressed and I’m glad when I had no money and very little choice that I found such a wine as this I don’t get paid for promoting these I’m just telling you what I think I honestly would say that wine over these two well this is a pretentious fake and this one’s a damn good effort what have we got in this one red berries the best a good bit of centralized earthiness I this is a really really good find fantastic value but if you want a good all round all year easy pleasing Wine Not unlike a r just got the best of everything about it for the price you’re going to be pushed to find something better than that so that’s Celia does dolphin unusual bottle not bad at all you know you’re not going to get layer upon layer of you know um brick sot or anything like that but you’re going to get a nice fruity spicy Levy wine this one W definitely go for this one and this one is kind of everything
