En l’Ormeau, Village lieu-dit in Meursault, mapped.

THE FILE · No. 057 · Domaine Arnaud Ente, Meursault Clos des Ambres

One walled vineyard. Three Arnaud Ente wines. The age of the vines decides which is which.

In En l’Ormeau, just below Meursault, the domaine declares five parcels: 1.6 ha, nearly nine in ten of it planted in 1953–54. Those fifties vines become Clos des Ambres. The younger vines make the village Meursault; the very oldest go into La Sève du Clos.

He prunes to keep the sap flowing. “I invented nothing in pruning. … I relearned techniques that had been forgotten.” Arnaud Ente, in La Route des Blancs’ film on the domaine (2022, translated from the French). He took two days to say yes to his father-in-law’s vines, and started in 1992.

Which wine should we open next?
