Elderly run restaurant with Ghibli vibes
Tell me this place doesn’t give Studio Ghibli vibes?
Because the second I walked in, it felt like stepping into another era. The cozy jazz playing in the background mixed with the retro Showa style atmosphere made this one of the most memorable restaurants I visited in Tokyo! I was actually supposed to eat somewhere else that had been recommended to me by a local, but it ended up being closed. While walking around, I noticed the owner trimming the plants outside and asked if they were open, he smiled and happily welcomed me in.
What made this place even more special is that the owner is a French trained chef who learned his cooking in France! I ordered their most popular dish which was the beef stew, and the demi-glace sauce was honestly incredible…I’d say I liked it more than some of the versions I’ve had in France. And for the quality, the prices were surprisingly reasonable too! The restaurant is run entirely by an elderly husband and wife team, so please be patient when visiting.

He cooks while she takes orders and serves everyone, which honestly made the whole experience feel even more warm and personal. Save this spot if you’re looking for incredible food and a cozy atmosphere in Tokyo, and send it to someone who loves discovering local hidden gems over trendy spots!
