If you’ve been stopped at the front door of Normanby Mt Eden and asked if you’d like to try some cider, there’s a very good reason.
Eric Bordelet produces some of the finest ciders and perries in the world — and they’re bottles our Head Sommelier, Andrea, knows very well from serving them at top tables around the world.
So when Eric himself walked into Normanby earlier this year, Andrea was understandably a little star-struck.
Eric’s journey began in fine wine, including time as a sommelier at L’Arpège in Paris. The late Didier Dagueneau, one of the Loire Valley’s great vignerons and an inspiration to many, was also an important influence on his journey.
Eric eventually returned to his family estate in Normandy, bringing the philosophy of fine wine to apples and pears. Terroir, vintage, variety and structure all matter, resulting in ciders and perries of remarkable complexity and elegance.
Normanby Fine Wines is now very proud to be the New Zealand importer of Eric Bordelet’s ciders, perries and new Calvados.
Come in and taste them with us. Andrea would love to tell you more.
And our food match? Cheese. Cheese and cider. You really do need to try it.
The sun’s out. It’s cider time.
