In the Southern US they tend to stress the letter l in salmon.
In sandwich some native speakers also stress the letter d, I heard both pronunciations.
The pronunciation of the name of the state of Arkansas with a silent final s was made official by an act of the state legislature in 1881, after a dispute arose between the state's two US senators, one of whom favored /ˈɑɹkənsɔː/ (compare Wichita /ˈwɪtʃɪtɔ/) and the other of whom favored /ɑɹˈkænzəs/.[2] /ɑɹˈkænzəs/ is still common, especially in Kansas, as a pronunciation of the name of the river.
Note an exotic case of a silent "C": cnidarian.
Interestingly, "gnome" is pronounced with a silent G, but "GNOME" (software) typically has an audible G, sometimes separated from N by a schwa vowel.
