A wildfire is moving extremely fast through a touristy peninsula close to the dune du Pila and Cap Ferret, dubbed ‘the Hamptons of France’. Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate as firefighters struggle to contain the blaze. FRANCE 24’s Christopher Bockman is in Toulouse and explains why the fire is spreading so fast.

    hold polluters accountable for the climate crisis they are unfolding. They knew this since 1980s. science is clear. Stop the fossil fuel lobby

    Poor air quality is specially worrisome for infants and elders
    Dehydration thickens the blood, making the heart work harder
    Don't leave elders, or children home alone during a heat wave
    Avoid visiting national parks and forest reserves

    I have been wondering for a while if our replanting doesn’t need to use species better suited to the hot and dry future. Canadian here, our forest fires are partially due to privileging more valuable trees, like pines, that burn well. Southern France has always had a problem with its vegetation burning, even 20-30 years ago. May want to think carefully about how to best manage this landscape.

    Oh, and yes, cut the $&@%# emissions already!
