Two very different takes on Syrah:
2020 Cayuse Bionic Frog Syrah
Earthy, sweaty on the nose. Horse blanket and dark fruit permeate from the glass.
Dark fruit and leather lingered on the palate. This is not for the feint of heart. Very popular among the men in our group.
2019 D’Alessandro il Bosco Syrah.
So this was my first introduction to world class Syrah when I was younger (2008).
Dark and brooding on the edge. Smells of cookies and plums on the nose.
Full bodied and clean notes of blueberry and baked goods on the mid palate.
The finish was bread and blueberry compote.
Honestly, when it comes to wine, I enjoy complexity and discomfort. Cayuse takes this round.
Many folks in this sub are not fans of Cayuse but complexity is a big deal with me. Cheers folks.

Love me some Rocks Syrah. It’s crazy that Rotie Cellars is next door to Cayuse and are very different in terms of The Funk.
I have a ton of library Cayuse if anyone is on the hunt.
“Horse blanket.” Yes. A friend once described that note as “farmer’s underpants.”
And yet, I buy it every year.
