In 1889, Queen Margherita of Savoy got so tired of eating complex French gourmet dishes that she demanded to eat what the local commoners of Naples were eating: humble street pizza! To honor her, chef Raffaele Esposito crafted a special pie using red tomatoes, white mozzarella, and green basil to match the colors of the Italian flag. 🇮🇹
She loved it so much, they literally put her name on it! 👑🍕
