So this is my first time furnishing a place and I’m kind of lost. Right now I've got the cream sectional and dark walnut / black TV stand as pictured in the last two slides.
For the coffee table how do I know if a shape or size or color would mesh well? For example:
Shape: would an oval or rectangular table work better?
Color: match the tv stand or something new?
How much does it matter? Is there an obvious choice or is it preference?

First pic has the right shape but is undersized. Second pic looks like a sarcophagus- would not choose.
I think the round one matches the entertainments stand better because of the color and the vertical panels.

You need some softer edges to balance tv stand and sofa. But you also need something dark like tv stand to keep it all grounded. Either a round wood table or maybe round ottoman in a darker color(s) to coordinate with entire room.
Round coffee table is easier to maneuver around an L sectional
