The couch is new but I want to replace the media console (huge dark rectangle) and the coffee table (huge bulky square). Those are both hand-me-down things. And I hate the rug! Feeling stuck on replacements. Any suggestions? Maybe a round coffee table or rug? More art too?

IMO swapping those heavy, dark pieces for sleeker ones with some curves makes a huge diff! The round rug and nested coffee tables totally change the energy of the space. Also, a gallery wall setup could bring in some cool art without cluttering up the surfaces.

Picture, TV and shelf are all too high. Armchair is unlikely to be used in that corner.
Group the painting and floor lamp together. Place armchair on this side, facing the door. Much bigger artwork above sofa, or long shelves. Round or oval rug. You need a rectangular coffee table or you won’t be able to reach it from the sofa.
Tv too high
Everything in the room feels rectangle, making the room feel narrow and long.
