Jacksonville’s Southbank is getting a wine bar this summer — and the name alone tells you something about this city’s roots. The Huguenot opens at 1037 Hendricks Avenue in San Marco, named after the French Protestant settlers who established one of the first European colonies in Northeast Florida back in the fifteen hundreds. Wine, cheese and charcuterie. Eighteen seats at the bar, booth seating, and a six hundred square foot outdoor patio. Open Tuesday through Saturday afternoons. The owner co-founded Grotto, one of Jacksonville’s favorite wine bars, back in two thousand one — and has been wanting to do this again ever since. His wife is making a full career change from art and design to run it alongside him. The Northbank gets Asado Life this August. The Southbank gets The Huguenot this summer. The Saint Johns River corridor is becoming something really special.
