My mom just recently gave me this vintage heriz rug so I am finally redoing my living room. I live in a 1960s ranch and my front door opens into my living room. What is the best furniture placement? If the couch is on the window wall does it need to be centered on the window? Apologies for my poorly drawn floor plan.
Also, what color couch would look good with this rug?

Very hard to say without knowing what other furniture you have. I don’t understand why the close crop but it suggests you have maybe 2 easy chairs and some other unidentifiable pieces. And how big is the rug? A cream, charcoal or blue-gray, or Olive green sofa would look good on the rug and with your floor
Center the couch and rug to the TV.
Use the wall to the left of the front door for a console table for a drop zone.
Your rug has about 9 different colors in it.
1. Black
2. Deep red
3. Bright red
4. Deep tan
5. Khaki or light tan
6. Grey
7. Blue, might be grey
8. Coral
9. Cream
Any of the colors 1, 4-9 could work as a couch color.
